Here’s my hint - though this figure is certainly fictional, I would not say he originated in a “work of fiction” per se.

Just whether they were ever the subject of an English language poem.I'm actually interested in a clarification here. Are you asking if this character originated in an English-language poem, or if this character was ever a character in an English-language poem?
