So I thought of him, but I don't think he's human, and I'm pretty sure he has supernatural powers.

I'm actually interested in a clarification here. Are you asking if this character originated in an English-language poem, or if this character was ever a character in an English-language poem?
Sorry for the delay in the clarification. I specifically did not ask about origination. Just whether they were ever the subject of an English language poem.
