The Very Reverend John Proctor tried to focus his eyes. Was it the darkness? Or was something else causing his vision to blue. His mouth also watered. More than usual.

Proctor tried to stand, but his knees felt strangely wobbly. He grimaced, wondering what NORMAL wobbly knees would feel like.

“Help,” he started to call… but his tongue was tied. Perhaps literally. Small webs of a strange fiber was starting to cover his mouth. And his face. And his ears. And… every….part… of… his… body.

Scratching and the webs, he attempted to clear the troublesome covering. What could have caused this? It was almost as if some sort of curse had……

And then he remembered. The whispered voices that had almost woken him 48 hours ago. Voices whispering, trying to urge him to make some sort of declaration… a declaration of GUILT for an innocent man! But he had resisted the urge… and fallen back into deep sleep.

But the voices had seemed satisfied… gladdened… confident.
