Stephen Crane was a war correspondent towards the end of his career. I wonder if this would have been alluded to in the answer to the question of being a military/government figure? There's a few early 20th century writers that had this role.

A could be someone who is more commonly thought of as Kazakh, or someone who was born in Russia/the USSR and immigrated somewhere else at a young age.
