I have some ideas, but I'm barred by the two-consecutive-question/guess rule, so I'll defer to my colleagues.

It makes it so if there is a list of potential people, I can immediately eliminate multiple options without having to research anythingHanging Rook wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 5:38 pmYes— an "e" is in their first name — whatever you hope to learn from this

Well, the questions weren't wasted. Eliminating Asia and the Americas is still important.cdngooner wrote: ↑Wed Nov 08, 2023 6:07 pmThat was some bad question-asking by us the Players. It is useless to ask if one lives in a region whose borders are uncertain. We wasted a few questions on the assumption that if not born in either Northern or Southern Europe, he must be born outside Europe entirely.
We can deduce he is from Eastern or Western Europe (as defined by the Wikipedia page Hanging Rook referred us to); or (if not Hannibal, probably unlikely) North Africa.
I think we are at 14 questions.
Did this person fight in a war in the army of the Holy Roman Empire (as it was constituted at the time of at least one of his wars)?

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 153
I'm confused. Question for the group (not the QM):
In which war or wars did Barbarossa fight on the side of the Germans or the Holy Roman Empire? (As per q.14)??
Barbarossa mostly fought the Spanish Empire but occasionally fought the Holy Roman Empire, most notably at the Battle of Preveza.
When did he ever fight on their side??

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 153
Barbarossa is a nickname literally meaning “Red Beard”. In this case the guess was the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I of the House of Hohenstaufen, not the Ottoman Corsair.

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 153
Yes Frederick Barbarossa was meant. The formal army of the HRE was created in 1422, that is way I stated the answer to the question in that more general way.

Re: Twenty Questions: Game 153
This will be hard. There are so many HRE crusader generals. Even to narrow down which Crusade will take a few questions.
Might as well try.
Did he fight in either the First or Second Crusade?

He was a crusader General not born in Northern or Southern Europe, and he has an E in his first name, remember.

Yes it is. Hanging Rook told us the UN Geoscheme map was definitive. In that, England is in Northern Europe. Not as defined by the wikipedia page earlier this round
Plus Edward didn't fight in the army of the Holy Roman Empire.
