I'll make the gratuitous comment that I have never really understood these "shotgun" questions. Even after an answer, you don't know what you learned. Is his Oscar(s) for a different category, or were they from before 1980? I think true binary questions, one fact, yes or no, are more effective.Won an Oscar for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, in 1980 or later?
But its your game.
Re: 20 Questions - Game 148
Yeah, they're always a bit of a risk, and whenever the answer is "no", I regret asking them. Still, there is a finite number of people this could be, so this answer did eliminate a lot of people.cdngooner wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 1:24 pmI'll make the gratuitous comment that I have never really understood these "shotgun" questions. Anyway, was this person born in a country where either Spanish or German is the primary language?
Re: 20 Questions - Game 148
Actually scratch that, I realize that I've hit my limit of consecutive questions. Never mind.

Was this person born in a European country that is currently a member of the European Union?
(It may not have been at the time of his birth but that's why I underlined "currently").

Interesting.
Did this person win an Oscar in relation to a non-English language film?
(Or at least a film which, when originally released, was not primarily in English)

Re: 20 Questions - Game 148
I want to correct a misperception that may have creeped in through my summaries of the known information. When I say "His Oscar is ..." I do not mean to imply necessarily that he has won only one Oscar. There may be more. That question hasn't been asked yet. I should have been more careful in my summaries.
Certainly, if there is more than one Oscar involved, all of the Oscars fit the criteria of the question and answer.
Carry on.

Nobody on this list fits the bill:
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls002272475/
From this we can conclude that one of these has to be true:
https://www.imdb.com/list/ls002272475/
From this we can conclude that one of these has to be true:
- The list has a mistake
- IMDb has the wrong death dates for someone on this list
- We are looking for someone who won an Oscar for something other than Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor

Clarification: by "the Oscar" I mean any of the Oscars, if there were multiple.

Re: 20 Questions - Game 148
Sir Tim Rice is CORRECT.Tim Rice
And after only 14 questions. I must have made it too easy, although I saw you circling and circling and never quite getting closer. No one asked about music. If you had asked if he won an Oscar AND had a civil decoration, that would have narrowed the ground immensely. But somehow damo666 pulled it out of the air. Congratulations!
