TWO questions left and we know it's a living black woman who was born in the Western Hemisphere and had something to do with colonists in some way, but not in a Pocohontas way. She wasn't an entertainer of any kind, nor a sportsperson, nor a mathematician, and has never notably been a perpetrator or victim of crime.

Think carefully before asking the next question please.

The colonialism thing makes me think that we're looking for a West African woman, or maybe a woman from a small Caribbean nation or a black Irishwoman.

Not either of these, but you're thinking along the right lines.

Given this, we're probably looking for someone from the Caribbean, Mexico, or Central or South America. Or maybe Canada (but not white).

Not a question, just an observation.

No.

I'm tempted to give a hint, but with enough people using their free guesses, you could conceivably get to the answer quickly.

You got it! Well done. Prime Minister of Barbados since 2018, who was in charge of removing the British monarchy (which I think counts as "interacting with colonists"). Also did not die after 1899.

The first few questions on this thread were...interesting. You all finally came together in the end though.

In the sense of Britain as a colonial power which lorded it over Barbados from the 1620s until 1966, but retained Elizabeth II as monarch until 2021.

Why did you need this to be clarified?

Britain was a colonial power half a century before, but even then the colonists would have been the people in Barbados rather than the people in Britain. To call the modern day British government colonists seems a very odd interpretation

Would you have guessed the correct answer if that commentary had not been given by the question master?

(Or did you remain convinced that it was Robert the Bruce?)

And yet the previous guesses were of a Haitian woman and a Liberian women. Haiti and Liberia have been independent states since the early 19th Century. A woman from Barbados at least makes a lot more sense.

Eventually, perhaps. Although if you were to ask if I would have guessed the correct answer prior to han, the answer is almost certainly not
