Rhubarb Pie

Is it a thing where you live? If so, what do you think of it? (Especially those of you on the other side of the big pond - I've watched a lot of GBBO and tastes seem different when it comes to fruit pies such that I'm really curious). We have a small patch of Rhubarb in our yard and my wife made a spectacular pie yesterday and it got me wondering...

In the UK we tend to have rhubarb crumble, which has a buttery crumb topping instead of a pie lid, but the filling is pretty much the same. It goes well with custard or ice cream.

My wife makes rhubarb crumbles, too. :) And we eat both the pie and crumble with vanilla ice cream as well, although now I want to make a vanilla custard and give that a go...

For some reason, it never tastes quite as good with strawberries, but we make it that way sometimes as well.

I would never besmirch the purity of a good custard with anything other than possibly rice.

Berries, of course. Wife and I raise chickens so plenty of fresh eggs and custard is one of my favorite "easy to make" desserts. I have not yet attempted the creme brulee sugar top yet, though, but I want to try sometime...

I've only ever done basic vanilla, although it's "vanilla beans soaked in vodka" vanilla as opposed to extract or imitation. I've wanted to try orange liqueur as well but haven't yet. Bay leaf sounds interesting!

Yeah, I'd encourage you to try infusing your milk/cream with flavour, since you can do just about anything. Earl Grey is another choice I really like.

Rhubarb is the devil's plant. But I guess it deserves some respect for being one of those Chinese foods that has become so common it is no longer thought of as Chinese

I did not like it when I was younger, way too tart. That was a few dozen orbits back, though.
