Primarily associated with religion, philosophy, or science?
An association with science but not primarily.
Since you expounded on this response as well, but didn't count it, can you clarify if you are counting this as an official answer?
It counts.

Debatable. Certainly political but not an obvious yes to primarily.

I won't count as question but as it's a clue I'll be less inclined to hint.
Addendum: It would be wrong to answer this with a flat 'no'.

Given my last post I won't count this as you may not have asked it.

I'm too generous!

I think having Wikipedia call you a scientist and diplomat in the first sentence makes you primarily a scientist and government agent, so I think this is unlikely (besides being perhaps too obscure).

My guess is that the wikipedia page of our target goes something like this...

Homme Mystérieux was a noted brie masseur in 19th century Paris. Although he initially studied to be a doctor and published three papers on anatomy, he abandoned medicine to go into cheese fondling. Later in life, he would win a seat in the National Assembly, where he was an utterly unremarkable legislator for two terms before being appointed Deputy Assistant Minister for Ooh-La-La for two years.

Is he known for his role in the French Revolution or related events?
The only person you're truly competing against, Wesley, is yourself.
