Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
Was she born in a country that was ever occupied by another nation during her lifetime? This includes the formation of a country, like if she was born in modern-day estonia and then estonia was created later, that would count.
Occupied in full, not in part.

Very funny indeed.
Yes, she is Asian.
Is it just me or is this thread becoming less active?

From my perspective, it has become less fun.
Lots of criticism on strategy and goals... instead of a light interesting fun game. ::shrug::

Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
I mean... y'all do what you want. I just wasn't playing for an intense over serious thing.
Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
Don't forget that live happens too.
I mean, didn't you all spent the start of the week in a special way?
Also, personally, for me it's also kinda a hunch thing. Like for example I know who Peter Ustinov is (is regularly in news here) but I probably would've never guessed him.

But I guess I'll give it a try without having a hunch
1. Real and dead.
2. Not male.
3. Does not have a Hollywood star.
4. Born after December 31st 1889.
5. Not born in a dominantly anglophone country.
6. Not born in the Americas.
7. Never won a Nobel or Pulitzer.
8. Not famous for entertaining people*
9. Not born in Europe
10. Definitely a Stateswoman
11. Not born in a country that was ever occupied by another nation during her lifetime (including the formation of a country, example Estonia)
12. Asian
*did work as entertainer, although it is not what she is famous for.
NOT Bandaranaike (damo666)
Just to be sure, I'd like to check what consists of Asia for this game since sometimes there are different borders drawn for continents and Asia to Oceania is one that might confuse someone. Well for Europe and Africa it should be in Russia, Kazakhstan, Caspian Sea, between Russia and Georgia, Black Sea, Turkey (Bosporus), Mediterranean Sea, Egypt (Suez Canal) (some define Sinai still Africa though), Red Sea into the Indian Ocean, right?
Between Asia and Oceania and Australia, I've heard some different definitions, like some have Indonesia part of Oceania, some only New Guinea and some pacific Islands, some pack Oceania and Australia together and merge them to one continent. Can you please clarify which definition you had in mind? Is it the one where all the islands (including East Timor/Timor-Leste) and the west half of New Guinea counts as Asia?
Until this is clear, we could think of the occupation angle. Regarding the date of birth being after 1890, we have two big wars that could eliminate a lot of origin places. Come to think of it, theoretically she could've lived between both wars. I think knowing more about her lifespan (god that sounds so awful) would help us here. Also it's question 13 so if it's a weak question and I'm wrong about my assessment we could recuperate. I was thinking about asking about her date of birth before but it didn't feel as good as a question for it.
There is one more thing though that I want to have clarified, come to think of it, namely how occupied does a country need to be for the question to qualify, do we mean only after-war/full occupation, enemy forces fighting deep in friendly lands while half the country is occupied or does one single town/district/province/state (magnitude) count?
Did she live to her 40th birthday? (in case she was born on the 29th of February, please don't count it as every fourth year)

Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
I'm pretty sure having a military base in a country doesn't count for the occupation trait to trigger (for example the US in Japan), but it would be nice to have it clarified too, it you would be so kind.Kakarroto wrote: ↑Thu Feb 16, 2023 9:02 am

Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
I won't count the Asia clarification as a question, since it's mostly irrelevant. According to Wikipedia: "The Maluku Islands in Indonesia are often considered to lie on the border of southeast Asia, with New Guinea, to the east of the islands, being wholly part of Oceania."
So most of Indonesia and East Timor are counted as Asian, while Australia and the island of New Guinea are in Oceania.
She lived past her fortieth birthday (never made it to her eightieth though).

As per DarthPorg's question, "occupied" means complete and full occupation of all a nation's territory. Partial occupation during the course of a war does not qualify.DarthPorg36 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 14, 2023 5:16 pmWas she born in a country that was ever occupied by another nation during her lifetime? Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
Was she from one of (what is now known as) India/Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka?
Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
Thank you very much. The occupation definition isn't as restrictive as I had hoped, but it's still useful.
With that information about her lifespan (thanks by the way for the bonus) it would be best, I think, to ask about the date of her death, I was thinking where to though, on the first January of 1970, 1980, 1990? Or should we go earlier? Given she was between 41 and 79 I'm not too sure how much to gamble here and would like all your input.

Re: Twenty Questions, Game 93
If not, I'll ask if she was Thai.
