on "wait for orders"
on "wait for orders"
how can one tell if a game is wait for orders and how does one create (or not) a wait for orders game? i see no option in the game creation menu. also it may be prudent to have all turns in 1901 be wait for orders, or to have such an option.
Re: on "wait for orders"
Mods can correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that it is impossible for a normal user to simply create a wait for orders game. It is too easy to be exploited and I don't think that mods want to deal with that.
Now, my guess is that if you created a private match where everyone agreed to WFO and you promised the mods that you would not bother them about the game, then you may be able to get WFO on your game.
It looks like this thread may have been started because of Durga's "Play diplomacy with me" thread. My guess is that she either has connections with mods or just asked like a normal nice person.

Re: on "wait for orders"
When WFO debuted, we gave all users the ability to create games with it turned on. This quickly turned into a disaster, as people would go down a black hole of one player disappearing after another.
WFO is mostly there for tournament games where there's a TD who will watch and replace players who abuse it. When I was an admin, we'd turn it on for people after giving them stern warnings about how it can go wrong and how it wouldn't be our priority if it did, but no guarantees on the policy nowadays.

Re: on "wait for orders"
Until there is capability to disallow press in games that are in a WFO state, WFO ruins games more than NMRs because of how easily it is manipulated imo. And I hate NMRs
Re: on "wait for orders"
I wouldn't respond to anyone who tried to do that, and hope that no one else would either. But it's absolutely not worse than nmr's in my opinion.
Re: on "wait for orders"
Is there a "webdiplomacy premium" which I don't know about? How much does that cost?
Re: on "wait for orders"
Not that I care too much about this specific feature, but I think a specific quote from Animal Farm may be appropriate here...

Re: on "wait for orders"
Anyone who wants it on a game can get the members to pre agree or agree in public press to it, and if there are no objections it's enabled with the warning that it can result in games being stuck for a while. It's disabled as a game creation option though because of how often it was abused. And it's enabled on a mod discretion basis, so if someone abuses it in a game they will most likely be denied the next time they try requesting it.
Re: on "wait for orders"
thanks for the responses all. how do ya'll feel about a wait for orders option for 1901? to me, it seems far less abusable than the standard wait for orders.
