You guys should be careful on how you interpret my answer to the 'natural causes' question. It's not a matter of sources being unclear about what type of natural causes befell the hero of our story. Some sources flat out say that this individual died of something other than natural causes.

Did he have a Royal title?
As in, was he a king? Or are you asking whether he received a title from a king?
Was he of royal lineage?

As I always understood, it boils down to the question: died of a natural cause or was killed. So we're dealing with a dichotomy: illness and age versus accident and other person's action.

Just to be clear:

You're saying that different sources disagree about the cause of his death, yes?

So, it's a European non royal Roman Catholic native speaker of a Romance language who is some sort of military leader oft portrayed with a sword born 1600- 1675ish and died after 1690 but not on Jamie's famous list.

I think the military bit is either misleading or we are dealing with an obscurity.

I'm flummoxed.

it might be worth it to try to narrow down the romance language aspect - french/italian vs spanish/portuguese

Some secondary sources say that other secondary sources are wrong about the cause of his death.

Check your math. Where did you get 1675?

The military part was not misleading. Asking after royalty was a waste.

This one is very puzzling.

Yeah was nonsense. Born in 1600s.

But ... was the reaction bluff or double bluff. Suspect born late 17th century.

Don't understand why the royalty question was a waste.

Maybe Vendome. Had my guess so this is not an official question.

I put it up for discussion.

Was he some kind of military commander or officer?
Because the question didn't leave much room for royalty, who by this period of European history weren't often commanders

Uh, I mean, that's wrong. Lots of the people in the list I posted were both military leaders and members of their country's royal family.

He's ruled out, because he was on the list I linked to earlier.
