Seeking help. Movement issues
https://imgur.com/MwFIUuU
Very new to Diplomacy and trying to figure out what I did wrong. (I'm France)
Why was I unable to take London when I had the following orders:
Bel to Lon via English channel convey
Pic to Lon via English channel convey
English channel hold
Brest support hold fleet in English channel
What do I need to do to take London next turn?

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Well, since you want to convoy an army to London, you have to give a convoy order to your fleet. Even if you ordered your fleet to convoy in your scenario, it wouldn't work, because you ordered two armies to the same province, and a fleet can only convoy one army at a time. So if you want to take London, the orders should look something like:
English Channel convoy to London from Bel/Pic (choose one)
Bel/Pic moves to London by convoy
Hope this helps.

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
1. a fleet can only convoy one unit at a time.
2. you need to have another unit issue a support order to dislodge the unit in london.
3. even if the above were not factors, bel and pic would have "self bounced". two units cannot occupy the same space at the same time, so both moves fail.
4. it appears as though you thought one of the moving armies would act as support. but the army has to be ordered to support, not move. e.g. bel supports pic-lon.
5. however, bel is not adjacent to lon and thus can not support movement to that province.
you could convoy to wales, then on the following turn, use one of wales/eng to support the other into london. though i can't really give good advice based on a limited view of the board.

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Or order English Channel-Wales, Brest-English Channel, and convoy an army to London while Wales supports the army to London next turn.

Would this work as a solution:

I don't suppose there is a way to take London down this turn?

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
You can use the preview button below the map, it's the one on the right. Doing so will show your orders on the map so you can check for mistakes
Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Unless the army in London moves out voluntarily and no other English unit moves in.
Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
I'd like to add that there is no need to support hold the fleet in the English Channel, since the only unit that can attack your fleet in the English Channel is the English fleet in the North Sea, and there is no unit that can support that attack. Thus, you can afford to do something else with your fleet in Brest, for example send it to the Mid-Atlantic Ocean.
Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
If England decides to move from London to Whales my plan fails, so I have a 50.50 for a successful invasion of mainland is that correct?
Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
That is correct.
I would not call it a 50/50 guess, but yeah, it could fail depending on what England does.

I am currently attempting to take a SC enter. Based on the picture provided will I be able to secure London on this turn? If not, please advise. Thank you.

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
No, there are three issues:
1) The fleet needs to order Pic-Lon. It's currently trying to convoy the English army, which is not what you want.
2) The army in Wales needs to support the move to London from Picardy. It's currently supporting England.
3) The German fleet could support England in London (if the army is not moving) to prevent you from taking it.

So does the army at whales need to support move to London from Picardy or "to London from the Eng channel"?

It's just like you have it: support move to London from PicardySayGen wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 11:44 pmhttps://i.imgur.com/Iryjwdi.jpg

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Wonderful, thanks. Don't want to make any more mechanical mistakes- game is already challenging enough :)

Hopefully this will be the last one (I hope) Let's see if I get this right:
Fleet @ Eng Ch --------- Hold
Army @ Bel ------------- Hold
Army @ Gascony ------- Move to Brest
Army @ London -------- Hold
Army @ Wales ----------- Support Hold the unit in London
Fleet Irish sea @ -------- Support Hold the fleet in the English channel.
If I decided to move the F@IrishS to Liverpool can a fleet that that SC?
Can English use both fleets in the NorSea and NorthSea to dislodge my hold on the English channel--or would I be correct in saying that you have to have both in an adjacent tile to disloge, thus my fleet in the English channel is safe no matter what this turn.
Edit: Alternatively can I use Wales to move to Liverpool and support it with the fleet in the Irish sea. Would that leave me vulnerable in any way?

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Your fleet in the English Channel is safe. I would also advise to give it an order. It can support land units!SayGen wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 8:25 pmIf I decided to move the F@IrishS to Liverpool can a fleet that that SC?

Yes, Irish Sea can take Liverpool, if England doesn't move his army there.
Yes, you can use Wales to take Liverpool with support from Irish Sea! That would guarantee you take it.
London would be vulnerable from an attack by Yorkshire and NorthSea, unless you find a way to counter that

Re: Seeking help. Movement issues
Thank you, so I've updated the plan:
Eng channel to Support hold in London
Wales to move to Liverpool via land
Fleet in the Irish sea to support move to Liverpool from wales.
If I'm understanding correctly, any attempt to recapture London will now fail, and I should be able to secure the 2nd SC at Liverpool.
