Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
Would he be described as a "Conquistador" ?
Potato, potato; potato.
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
There are others like Hernando de Soto and Vasco Nunez de Balboa, if someone else would like to post these guesses.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
A conquistador who is not Hernan Cortes? I'll have to go with Francisco Pizarro.
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
NOT Francisco Pizarro.
Let me give y'all a hint. He's on this list:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_conquistadors

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
Only one on that list that hasn't been asked yet and rings a bell is Juan Ponce de Leon. So I'll guess him.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
I was going to say the same thing.
@Tolstoy: Do you think that 50% of the general population would actually know who this person is?
Potato, potato; potato.
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
I think that figure is very location specific. I could name dozens of people that would be very well known in my area that are definitely not known to 50% of the general population. But for me it's very hard to guess which people ARE known internationally.
I personally do not think the 50% rule is needed, as long as you can reasonably find the person on the internet. Maybe we should add a couple of more questions if you pick someone less known.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
Why have a limit at all actually? It would be a challenge to pick someone difficult within certain restrictions, like the person should have it's own wikipedia page or something (maybe difficult for fictional people). See how many questions are required to guess said person.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
They should. I'm ready for this debate when it occurs. Believe me when I say I could've picked someone MUCH more obscure.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Mon Jul 25, 2022 9:05 am@Tolstoy: Do you think that 50% of the general population would actually know who this person is?
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
Well, I'm 99% sure I've never heard of the guy. Maybe it's an American thing?
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
The only Spanish (by birth) conquistador I know is Hernan Cortes.
But Google advises me to guess: Francisco Pizarro.

Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
With a name on a certain list, I don't think there is any point in further questions to narrow it down. We have two guesses left. Balboa and de Soto are somewhat notorious. I'll go with Balboa, discoverer for Europe of the Pacific Ocean.
Re: TWENTY QUESTIONS - ROUND XXXVIII
Now guessing: Juan de Salcedo.
Also haven't heard of him so all credit to Google if it comes off.
