Re: 20 Questions - Game 17
So I'm guessing she must be Japanese, Canadian, Russian, or from North Africa.
Question: Was she ever nominated for the Academy Award for either Best Actress, or Best Supporting Actress?

Re: 20 Questions - Game 17
So we are looking for a Canadian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or North African actress nominated for Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress, probably in the 1930s or 1940s, who remains a household name today (bearing mind the 50% dart test).
Potato, potato; potato.
Re: 20 Questions - Game 17
I am Googling like crazy here. (Well, mostly IMDB's 100 Famous Actresses of Hollywood's Golden Era.) So far, the only actresses I have come up with that would fit all criteria:
1. Norma Shearer. Born in Montreal, 1902, films up to 1942.
2. Merle Oberon. Born in Bombay, 1911, films up to 1973 but most pre-1950.
3. Olivia de Havilland. Born in Tokyo, 1916, films up to 1988 but lots pre-1950.
4. Lupe Velez. Born in San Luis Potosi, 1908, films up to 1944.
5. Maria Montez. Born in Barahona, 1912, films up to 1951.
The only one I have heard of is Olivia de Havilland, but she also has a lot of films post-1950, so not the best fit.

Re: 20 Questions - Game 17
Lupe Velez and Maria Montez were never nominated for an Academy Award as far as I can find.

Mexican or Caribbean is also an option.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 2:30 pmSo we are looking for a Canadian, Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or North African actress nominated for Best Actress or Best Supporting Actress, probably in the 1930s or 1940s, who remains a household name today (bearing mind the 50% dart test).
Re: 20 Questions - Game 17
Realizing this is my second guess, so it counts against the 20: Greta Garbo?

4 and 5 don't have Oscar nominations.Hamish wrote: ↑Mon Jun 20, 2022 2:43 pmI am Googling like crazy here. (Well, mostly IMDB's 100 Famous Actresses of Hollywood's Golden Era.) So far, the only actresses I have come up with that would fit all criteria:

Ugh, scratch that one too to Fred. Is there a way to edit or delete posts?
