Based on #3 that she's currently alive it's probably safe to say she is real.

Not strictly true. The rule is that if you throw a dart out of the window at least 50% of the people you hit should know who they are. Now if you took a literal interpretation of this rule you could argue that the chances of hitting anyone with a dart out of the window are very small indeed (why not try this experiment at home, kids?), so no one in fact actually needs to know them. But an interpretation more in keeping of the spirit of the rule is surely that the 50% public awareness level can be rather local, and that it is perfectly valid for an American to choose someone well known in America but more obscure elsewhere.

Well, of course. There probably aren't 5 names that are known to 50% of the world population! But known by half of USA, or half of the EU or half of the Commonwealth etc still means pretty dang well known
