At times in the past some GMs have allowed a "Spectator QT" which is separate to the God QT, yes. I am strongly opposed to such a thing and would never allow it in games I am running, and when I was on the Council I strongly advised against it in other games too.

The reason for this is quite straightforward. I would be concerned that a competitive imbalance could be caused. Someone might very well sub into the game, after having had one or more phases chatting in the Spectator thread, and thereby gaining the insights and observations of a group of neutral people in the Spectator thread (some of whom may well be experienced and clever players).

So effectively the subs could join the game with the benefit of having had additional coaching and advice from a group of observers. That commentary and advice has not been available to the players who started out in the game on D1. Thus there's an imbalance.
