Re: wD Mafia Master Post
I honestly don't see a problem with discord
All of your alleged problems are easily solved

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
Discord should be fine, just require everyone to log in and receive their role PM via discord dm instead of webdip dm maybe to make sure everyone has logged in.
I suggest instead of a mafia group chat where dead people/spectators can't see it we create a hidden channel in the mafia server or maybe just have a new server for each game? There can be a hidden channel for god thread too. It's quite doable honestly

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
The only logistical hurdle to using Discord channels is that the server owner, regardless of any permissions set, can always see all text channels, including mafia and god threads. Thus, Chaqa (the current owner) or any other future server owner who actively plays games would see the threads midgame. That said, we have three solutions sketched out which will resolve the problem, and we’re working through which option is best:
1. Pass server owner among Council members so that the server owner is never playing an ongoing game. Recently, we’ve taken the step internally of having at least one Council member sit out of both GMing and playing, so that there could be a (relatively) independent real-time review of any in-game issues that arise. It’s an easy enough fix to simply transfer ownership to the Council member sitting out. This obviously requires us to be careful in adding people to the Council, but is otherwise a great fix.
2. Create a separate Discord account (titled “WebDipMafia” or somesuch) and transfer server ownership to that account. This avoids any need to transfer ownership every time (no forgetting… or “forgetting”), and is thus probably the easiest fix to implement, but does create security issues in-game (as theoretically an unscrupulous Council member could sign into the account midgame). This is about equivalent to #1 in my mind, maybe a bit worse.
3. Host individual games on a separate server, with the GM as the server owner and only admin. This is the most logistically burdensome path, but it eliminates any realistic security risk barring GM error or malevolence. Due to the added logistics burden this is my least favorite option, but it is the most secure of the three.

Not that we're a democracy or anything, but option 3 seems the real less burdensome then the first two...

I should also point out that requiring people to have a Discord account is a logistical hurdle to itself. I’m not enamored with Discord as the solution, despite recognizing that it’s clearly the best option we’ve currently devised, because of that. Not everyone uses Discord (although most here do) and I don’t want to lose members because of that… I’d like our long-term solution not to require maintaining separate accounts, but we’ll see what happens. So far Discord is the clear frontrunner among solutions proposed.

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
I don't think Option 3 is ideal as many GMs will not be Discord-savvy.
I'm thinking there may (eventually) be a way to make a Discord bot that can handle it all, but I'm not there yet.
In other news, efforts to back up the Quicktopics have gone very well. I'm going to put a list up of what games I have backed up in a few days and people can send me the links for the ones I'm missing.

Go with #2. All three council members can have the password to the account initially. If anyone in the council joins the game, change the password and don't send it to any council member in the game. If all of you are playing at the same time, send me the password and I'll sit out and handle it for that game.President Eden wrote: ↑Tue Oct 26, 2021 3:36 pmThe only logistical hurdle to using Discord channels is that the server owner, regardless of any permissions set, can always see all text channels, including mafia and god threads. Re: wD Mafia Master Post
If the main benefit of 2 over 1 is to avoid forgetting to transfer ownership, changing and disseminating a password undermines that benefit.

Re: wD Mafia Master Post
Why don't we just get captain même to own the discord? He's reliable, good at discord, and will never play again probably
