Anyway newbie question for this forum: how do gm assign roles? Is it randomized or do gms assign these roles on purpose. Like how do they decide these roles?

It's random unless you're Wjessop who secretly planned out roles.

That seems off. I wish there was a more transparent way to know this is randomized like maybe having the council build a role generator or something along that so we know for sure that this is random or have a third party person in the world he counsel that isn't playing to verify that yes this is all random. I dunno. Ignore me.

I don't know if there's any reason to believe there is anything non random about it. Not an issue imo.

I have some recollection of snowy successfully catching scum by seeing who was reading the thread and not posting, and the was some kerfuffle about people not knowing they could turn that feature off.

Double List randomization on random.org. One list was all of the roles the number of times they appeared (VT listed 12 times, Goon 3, and all others once), and one was a list of all the players. I rolled a d6 and randomized both lists that many times (4).
