If it wasnt for Balki's impressive ability to talk people that achieved a stalemate line into throwing him a solo, the defending world champion wouldve actually been eliminated by our weak group

I'm not sure if number of solos is indicitive of a weak or a strong group, frankly. I think the best measure is the median score

Median score shows parity, not strength. Group A winning the tournament will show that group A is the strongest group.

All parity shows in a group were evenly matched up, whether they may be equally good or equally bad. Solo’s occasionally come as a result of bad players in a game, but that’s only one of many reasons why a solo may happen. You’re setting a preferred conclusion and working backwards from it to support it.

How did we get trapped into caring about this? It’s not a “best group” tournament. Damn you ChippeRock for sucking me into your vortex!

This entire discussion is predicated on the assumption that seeding didn't do a perfect job. I don't really understand your argument.

Clearly the seeding is flawed, a team with me on it was ranked 6th overall. At least, I think so.

Also yay round 1 is over! My back of the envelope calculations tell me these are the final standings for group C:

West Coast: 188.5
Upper Mississippi: 197.5
California: 344.5
Canada: 548.5
Oceania: 0
South: 310
Portuguese Speakers: 227

Which would mean team California and Canada progress to the final round of the tournament.

Right, why didn't we think of that? That'd obviously be the weakest group!

The solos and the point distribution indicate that Groups A & B had 3 & 4 competitive teams (respectively) while Group C had 6 teams that were competitive! I mean our group got screwed in that it only sent 2 teams to the Finals just because there weren't a couple of super dominant teams who soloed.

And speaking of screwed, team South and team Netherlands both got screwed in that the cutoff for the Wildcard spot was more than a 100 points higher than it was in ANY of the previous World Cups. I mean, if our teams were in any other World Cup we would be in the Finals.

This occurred because the damn snake seeding (based on GR mind you! not sure how accurate it was for the non-elite teams but whatever threw in half super good teams and half super bad teams into Groups A & B while Group C got stuffed with a competitive division and as a result no one was good enough to solo and everyone was good enough to recognize and prevent a solo.

I will admit, if we had 2 way drawn one of our games we would be in but that should never have been needed when we dominatingly finished with 16 & 14 SCs in two 3 way draws.

Also, the points system should honestly give much more of a points advantage TBH for if you were to 3 way draw with 17 SCs versus 3 way draw with 1 SC. I mean your only getting 11% more points than being the weak dude in the draw. And that's the most extreme case!

There's my opinion on the whole thing.

Let me remind you that our team is 3rd in GR. Not only that, my GR is pretty good, it's not on the VillageIdiot level but it indicates that if I played with you I wouldn't do too bad.
