We can discount the first one because no information about the deputy had been released yet. The odds were very small that kgray was deputy, and it would be an enormous leap to claim that. The second option is theoretically possibly but extremely low probablity - why not counterclaim? Letting a scum be regarded as the main mechanical investigative is extremely dangerous.

Right, but there's no reason to take that as face value. Bona's out, so he's not that likely to live long enough to get another scan after Jamie. Not wanting to be scanned isn't necessarily scummy if you know your scan won't be useful, but the rest of us don't, and it does seem like scanning an unknown is the call.

Pay attention. Bona scanned himself and got an "Area-51" result. This is impossible if he is the Deputy unless he is Paranoid or Insane.
