I found brain's original point compelling because it's unlikely you to not get annoyed at people for claiming things, not because you'd be driven to anger by learning that an item that's bad for you is in brainbomb's hands (most would actually consider this a positive). Limiting that read to the alien rather than any scum feels odd to me.

He has gained a few town points by not going to bed an hour after he said he would. Scum say they’re going to bed and then leave or loiter without posting. Jamie has announced his departure, but can’t leave. It’s like the itch to solve the puzzle just has to be scratched even at the expense of a few zeds.
