Re: God is dead
@Peterlund... disco is dead... but was never really a thing. And should NOT have been a thing.

Re: God is dead
God is dead, and moral relativism killed him. Nothing is right, nothing is wrong, everything is permissable. There are no more certainties. There is no more justice. There is no more room for reason and logic.
We will regret killing our God when invaders bring their own to replace him.

Re: God is dead
Is anyone else creeped out when people claim that without god nothing is right or wrong? It's like people are admitting that their religion is the only thing keeping them from running through the streets raping and gutting children like they REALLY want to.
Re: God is dead
I am humanist and believe in humanism.
What do you need religion for? It serves no purpose.

Disagree! Disco was really a thing! Listen to ABBA's hit Dancing Queen https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xFrGuyw1V8sdargorygel wrote: ↑Fri Jun 15, 2018 11:36 pm@Peterlund... disco is dead... but was never really a thing. And should NOT have been a thing.
And I clearly disagree with your other statement as well. Disco is not dead yet at least since I wouldn't mind doing it.

Re: God is dead
There are more religious people alive today than at any time in history, and they are making up an increasingly large percentage of the global population.
Atheism is dying. God's never had it so good.

Re: God is dead
Got any evidence for that, Octavious?
Because atheism is a comparatively new phenomenon and has certainly been growing throughout the west and religious penetration has been pretty much 100% throughout history.
Of course there are more religious people, because there are more people because *surprise* religion encourages irresponsible reproduction.

@ Ogion
It's one of those common knowledge things. I'm sure there's plenty of stuff out there if you Google it.
I honestly have no idea how common atheism was in various historic periods. Naturally when saying you're an atheist meant a painful death people weren't particularly inclined to declare it. As much as I'd assume religion was hugely dominant in the past, I don't have solid evidence to base that on.
In more recent history I think the rise of communism played a large role in declining belief, and that has largely finished as a force. Christianity is spreading through China and Chinese communities in the West like a plague. In the last couple of decades the number of Chinese that have converted that I know is astonishing.

Re: God is dead
Do not underestimate religion. Aristotle wrote that there was never a people without a religion and history do confirm that there was never a civilization without a religion and a god.
Also what we have as moral guidance is because of religion. Religion came first, is part of human life since the cavemen.

Everything leads to war, but that discussion would be much more suited for the Politics forum

Yeah, but, since the politics forum doesn't display on the front page you can't use trolly clickbait as effectively.
