Re: Ankara Crescent
I've gotten a revolutionary new opening to this game. Army Galicia, army Bohemia, and army Silesia all support hold each other. They will await the day for someone to convoy them away, or for someone to build the ever so common fleet Munich.

Re: Ankara Crescent
I’m a little rusty but is this the variant that allows the rare leap year convention to come into play? If so I’ll leap frog from A Sevastopol to Finland and then Wales.
Re: Ankara Crescent
I'd love to see your code and the database you've created. This is gonna be very useful for me in the future to look at and analyze.

Re: Ankara Crescent
You're looking for the Y2K variant, in honor of the rare time that a year divisible by 100 is a leap year. The year 2000 happens to be a leap because it is divisible by 400, which is the exception to the rule that all years divisible by 100 are non-leap years. Unfortunately this moves fails and therefore A Sev holds.
Re: Ankara Crescent
You guys are all doing it wrong. The reason none of you are winning yet is because you neglected to seize the initiative with Ke2!!
I'll now play this move with a devastating attack and mate by 1903 to follow.

Re: Ankara Crescent
Bearing in mind we started in 2000 winning in 1903 is only possible if we’d’ve enacted the Jodie Whittaker loop which I don’t recall doing yet. Although we may have done it in the future and then when we reread this I’m going to look silly.

Rookie error @A_Tin-Can.
You'v e left yourself wideopen to a devastating stab: F(Mos) -> NAO under the rarely seen RTW rule, introduced in the 1988 Revision.

Re: Ankara Crescent
Unfortunately you are wrong, my dear friend. The RTW rule added in 1988 was removed in 1997 just before the 2000 rules came out. The support for Mornington Peninsula was a brilliant move given we are playing the 2000 rules. Carry on my dear friends. Seeing as it is my turn following some brilliant moves by others I elect to move to do the Smyrna blitz advancing from Armenia to Smyrna, ignoring any modifiers and rules like the 1978 Dunford Rule and its ilk. This does come at the cost of the unit being stuck in limbo for a turn. In order to escape I can order a hold once at least 3 but no more than 7 moves have taken place. If more than 7 moves take place the army is forced to retreat to the Black Sea, a disappointing fate.Deeply_Dippy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 9:04 pmRookie error @A_Tin-Can.

Re: Ankara Crescent
Just as an aside my girlfriend's nickname is Nid <cue jokes about Maniac being in Nid more than any other player>
Just thought I'd share.
Also if we trawl back through the archives you'll find that little old me first bought this game to the forum and that conveys certain rights, like being crowned the winner at least once a year. Check the rulebook.
Also - Move to Ankara Crescent ftw

Re: Ankara Crescent
A illegal move/hold followed by a move directly to Ankara Crescent? For shame, for shame. Nevertheless, congratulations on your win. Out of curiosity, what is Nid short for?Maniac wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 8:43 pmJust as an aside my girlfriend's nickname is Nid <cue jokes about Maniac being in Nid more than any other player>

Re: Ankara Crescent
It means little or small in Thai. She was the little one in her family and the name stuck. I think it’s quite a common nickname in Thailand. Re: Ankara Crescent
I'm sorry, Maniac, but if you've never been to Thailand, then I fear that you've opened yourself up to a terrible stab. Army Spain (south coast) rides the Ankara Crescent to Thailand (north coast) with support from Fleet Moscow.
Of course, under the 2000 Olympic rules you could block that move if Maniac is short for Maniacally Evil DemonOverlord of the Kestas Pentarchy, but somehow I doubt that you've got the guts to visit Army London.

Re: Ankara Crescent
Oh are we finally continuing the game from last time?
I move my F Geneva (west coast) to the top of the local alps for a dig in bonus (refering to page 71 in the 1976 Stockholm addition of the rulebook) and wait for global warming to raise the sea level to the appropriate level.
(phew that should give me enough automatic orders without any missed turns)

Re: Ankara Crescent
I thought the general sentiment (due to lack of objection) that maniac's craziac move won the game for him.
If so... I'll go back to sleep.
UNLESS we are opting to invoke the previously uninvoked vocalizing of the Volkwagon Gambit.
A(utomobile) Bav--> Detroit.
