Nobody should read the Daily Star, and hardly anyone does.damo666 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:03 pmWell you shouldn't read the Daily Star.BunnyGo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:00 pmI've been multiple times for extended periods, and worked extensively with people and business there. And consume a lot of your media. It's still dumb.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 3:56 pmBunnyGo has clearly never been to the United Kingdom, by the way. That whole sketch with Bozo and the kettle and the biscuit? That's literally how we talk in real life.
Nobody should read the Daily Mail or the Daily Express either, although for a slightly different reason.

Re: MAFIA 63: THE SCOURGE [HIDDEN]
I think there's a kind of tragic irony in watching America descend into a banana republic. But to be genuinely honest with you, yesterday scenes I found truly worrying. Watching an attempted white fascist coup with your Capitol being invaded by thugs urged on by a treasonous President, playing out live on TV, is not fun stuff, so if my "joke" was in poor taste I apologise. I hope my American friends are okay.BunnyGo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:04 pmYeah...saw that...wasn't funny.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:03 pm

I'm a big fan of "laugh at the despair of the fascist fall" humor. It's just hard to pull off. More I thought making fun of ND when he wasn't here was the not funny part.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:08 pmI think there's a kind of tragic irony in watching America descend into a banana republic. My god! VIZ!!!! I haven't thought of that mag in ages. I was first exposed to it in the late 80s. Friends from Ireland gave me a copy, and then I found an issue in a bookstore in Maine of all places. Buster Gonads and His Unusually Large Testicles. He'd carry them around in a wheelbarrow. He tried playing tennis one time and kept hitting himself with his racket. "Oh, me plums!!!!"Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:01 pmI took it from a Viz Comic character called "Mister Logic". Bozo always somehow reminds me of him. Here's another example:BunnyGo wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 3:56 pmI did laugh. Where's it from?Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 3:54 pm
Hey, come on, that was comedy gold. That took time to type out even if I did plagiarise most of it.

In-laws brought back an issue in the mid-00s and it wasn't the same. Glossy but dull.

President Eden and I were briefly talking about heavy metal bands before. Did you see that the lead guitarist of Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer, was one of the terrorists?

In the last 20 or so years it has varied from somewhat formulaic and dull, to things like the "Drunken Bakers", which truly reach the level of an art form:Hamilton Brian wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:20 pmMy god! It's amusing, because it doesn't provide anonymity. But it does provide an ability to move money in between currencies and with extra difficulty in tracing/tracking laundering. So it's largely a way for us to spend MASSIVE amounts of energy and technological hardware that could be better served elsewhere to fund the mob. So...it won't burst.Fluminator wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:25 pmBitcoin is at 40k wtf. WHEN WILL IT BURST? WILL IT BURST?

I told you to stop using helium-filled balloons as currency.
"It'll never take off", I said.

Ok I know I can't +1 but I laughed out loud at Jamiet's joke so he deserves it. I doubt Tom is reading this thread anyway.

Not any longer. Left in 97. Haven't been back except for a quick jaunt with the missus in 2010. I do miss it. Amazing to see the change of the brewing scene from say, 1991 to now.

I KNOW! The first wedding I came to here (granted, I wasn't drinking in 91...was still in 2nd grade) had Shipyard (recommendation: drink PBR or Bud or anything "standard american" where you get exactly what you expect instead). But now...I'm spoiled with 5+ breweries and 2 distilleries in town that are all amazing and varied.Hamilton Brian wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 4:30 pmNot any longer. Left in 97. Re: MAFIA 63: THE SCOURGE [HIDDEN]
Now see, late 80s onward, Geary's Pale Ale is my jam. That is what got me into homebrewing. I know it's changed, and isn't as nouveau as the new generation of beer drinkers enjoy, but it has a special place in my heart. If I could ever get it to ship across the border, I'd be a Happy Hamilton Brian.
