Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
I would say if someone finds the teasing to be rude, then yes, there is some harm in it. As a highly sarcastic person who used to incorporate that into my moderation style and forum presence I quickly learned to remove most of that teasing/joking/ribbing since it always tended to offend one person or another. Sarcasm is stunningly difficult to convey properly online without visual or verbal cues.

Yeah unfortunately we have a rather rude user base towards women which encourages them to not reveal their gender or tends to subject them to enough abuse that they leave when they do. If it was just 1 or 2 people doing this it'd be easy to moderate the offenses but it's tends to be rather rampant. It's actually the single most disappointing thing about our community to me.

Totally my bad, I actually didn’t perceive you the type that light-hearted competitive trash talk would cut that deep. I’d actually thought it a softball.Durga wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 8:25 pmIs there a reason for being so rude?VillageIdiot wrote: ↑Sat May 26, 2018 1:30 amHas a 14% win rate but solos one little tournament preliminary game and suddenly breathing privledged air, eh?
(How have I have I never noticed this weird fuzzy devil smiley before now!?)
JMO is completely right, was never my intent to legitimately hurt anybodies feelings. Just theatrics for the audience. Generally the more competitive players have been accustomed to ribbing amongst each other so was just considered par for course now that Durga is scratching his way up there. Sincere apologies, I’ll put the kids gloves on now towards you now that I know you don’t find enjoyment in participating in the mud-slinging.jmo1121109 wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 3:04 amI would say if someone finds the teasing to be rude, then yes, there is some harm in it.
I like that you’re trying. :)

VillageIdiot: You don't actually think that 14% is a bad win rate, do you?

Maybe, but I think that it's worse than that. There's a lot of rudeness on the forum in general and I don't even want to know what passes for debate in the Politics sub-forum these days now that it's hidden away. It's more likely that female users choose to fly under the radar after seeing a generally intolerant and hostile, when not abusive, forum culture.jmo1121109 wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 3:08 amYeah unfortunately we have a rather rude user base towards women which encourages them to not reveal their gender . . .
I find it unlikely that most female users would even notice the one or two openly female players. Celticfox certainly got her share of vile attacks when she got into debates with the nut-job conservatives that tend to lurk on the forum for years on end until they get banned. She must have thought that enough was enough and left us after years of bad company. If Durga "used to stalk r/Incels on the daily", she'll probably stomach staying with us for a while too. But anyway, my point is that the whole forum is toxic and that this should be battled alongside rudeness towards women in particular. I bet that this general toxicity is why most female players choose to stay undercover.

And it's fine I can forgive you VI. I get that it sucks to realize that you might be overrated and Balkins has to carry you to the finals <3

It’s just stuck in my head now. Ever since you went by the old monicker of “DemonOverlord” I cant help but picture you as a 16 year old boy with posters of dragons on his bedroom walls and a dresser full of Black Sabbith t-shirts. I’ve got a Freudian auto-correct I guess.
I don’t follow the Balkins reference but awesome that you’re getting into the spirit of the trash talk! It takes work to get them to land, but please do keep working at it.
Re: World Cup 2018 Signups!
Balkins is Balki. Anyway, I'm not actually interested in trash talking about players I've never played with. But don't worry, I know I suck at diplomacy :) I just thought it would be cute if each group had a solo. Not trying to say anything else with that comment..
Back on topic, group b pp has drawn.

Poor Yigg

Seriously, I thought you had it,Yigg. But you didn't stab in 1906 like you should've. Then in 1907 you don't take Moscow. Then in 1908 you give up the North Sea. That's what really did it. Don't go messing around in Austria - that was completely unnecessary. Balls-out for England.

Group C GB 1 has also just drawn! Congratulations to the victors. This one I feel had some legs left in it still, but if it had kept going would've led to an Italian solo.

For sure I’m absolutely a total has-been of a player resting on past lauels, but since I recruited Balki for the team we have a deal that I get to take 27% credit for his wins.Durga wrote: ↑Sun May 27, 2018 6:29 amBalkins is Balki. Congrats to all the winners in the other games!

Just want to congratulate Yigg on a game well played!
I honestly feel lucky to have made it into that draw after some serious losses of positioning to Italy and then the France/Italy/England alliance.
Too bad you got stuck in the mud with me.
