But what's the gamble? There's zero chance whatsoever that Player X as scum doesn't claim jailer now - So it's gonna be outed either way. This gives us the best chance of garnering additional scum out of that fact.

the gamble is we just kill X, claim be damned, to benefit earlier from weakening the scum arsenal.

the sniffer and roleblocks earlier removal will help our remaining prs protect the outed onea better, potentially for longer.

That's why we follow ghug's plan: The jailer outs first tonight. The scum don't know which of them is the guilty player X so they'd have to gamble on one of them claiming jailer tonight.

You then end up with the following six scenarios:

A) Player X is scum and claims jailer correctly but is cc'd. 50/50 for tomorrow
B) Player X is scum and claims jailer and is un cc'd. Inconvenient, but they're gonna have an awful hard time explaining why they're still alive later in the game.
C) Player X is scum but a teammate (Player A) claims jailer incorrectly and is cc'd. Player X is confirmed scum. Player A is now in a 50/50 for the day after.
D) Player X is scum but a teammate (Player A) claims jailer incorrectly but is un cc'd. Player X is confirmed scum, Player A is in Scenario B
E) Player X is the jailer but the scum panic and one of them incorrectly cc's jailer tonight. 50/50 ensues.
F) Player X is the jailer and no scum claims jailer. Sad times.

The Pres and I are talking about the option. We(he) have some scheduling issues we are working around. Which, as he originally stated was the original reason he originally instituted the "no hammer" rule.

I wasn't totally forthcoming with the reasons why I took out the hammer. Part of it legitimately is a quality-of-life test, because uncertain deadlines aren't great for anyone, and are particularly troublesome at times for GMs to handle. Without naming names, I was informed that people who GMed in the past reacted positively to the proposed change. I wanted to see how players felt, and figured the best route to test it would be via implementing it in this game. I'm getting the sense from this question that the feedback will not be uniformly positive lol.

However... I have two final exams that run from 2p-5p CST in the next couple of weeks, and two others that will run from 9a-12p CST. I carefully chose the start date and banned the hammer so that those exams would fall in the middle of day phases, so my cohost would only need to do a customary votecount for T-24h in my absence, potentially (worst case it would just be an hour late which wouldn't REALLY hurt anyone). So there are some meaningful logistical hurdles to overcome to bring the hammer mechanic back.

As dargorygel already said, we are looking into alternatives if the players truly are united in desiring the return of the hammer. Accordingly, to test the waters, if you want the hammer mechanic to return, I would ask that you +1 my NEXT post, which will be free of content and thus utterly unobjectionable to +1, as a quick and clutter-free "poll."

Yes. However, at an exact time to see if scum also claims. This is pretty unavoidable because if druga reveals what that they saw X, X will just claim jailer.
