Laphroaig is excellent (if too many vowels). You should try Lagavulin. Mind you any Islay malt is good.

I enjoy alcohol. Japanese whisky is surprisingly good. I received a bottle of Nikka 'from the barrel' from my best friend / ex-girlfriend five years ago; it's been consumed long since, of course, but it remains one of the best Xmas presents given to me in my adult life. As someone born and raised in Scotland I would say my favourites are Highland Park, Oban, Balvenie, Glenfarclas. Some bourbon is very good too, if you know what to ask for. Not Jack Daniels obviously; I wouldn't use that to clean paintbrushes.

Goldschlager is a fun liquer.
And I like amaretto on ice cream if looking for something sweet.

Not living in IOW IoS or Cornwall, I guess putting on weight with all these 'substantial meals' is inevitable (much preferring pub drinking to home drinking).
