Food for thought: being able to post images tends to change the nature of forum interaction. It's not an automatic process, but with the ability to do so, there's also a tendency or at least a temptation to be less verbal and more image-mimetic in how we're trying to communicate. One of the cool things about games that use press interaction as a major mechanic (diplomacy, mafia, etc) is that it requires that verbal je ne sais quoi. Other games/forums do not have the same kind of long-winded occasionally-caustic VERBAL interactions that this community does. Part of that is because the people that show up to play are not simply RT'ing or sharing stuff from 9gag. They're showing up for plans-within-plans levels of press and bluffing. That makes for a more literate, though perhaps not more moral, group of people. There's something enjoyable about that.

As a corollary illustration: the way mafia is played seems to have changed once people could start quoting massive blocks of text.

I'm not at all against using images, but it's worth considering how that affects the tone of conversation. That's 1000 less words per image posted. Maybe the ability to post images could be granted as a reward tier. Or taken away for doing evil things like annoying jmo. Or maybe the mods don't want to have to review what stuff gets posted. idk. There might be some benefits to a mostly text-based experience in the forums though. fwiw

In the event we allowed images, there wouldn't be a role, and if someone abused the privilege, they'd be banned from the site. But as before, there are reasons to consider it and also reasons to be wary.
