Returneing to The Game
For those who remember me, you will note I have not played a game in about 5 years. Well, I am quarantined, and have nothing better to do than consort once again with your debased kind, the players of diplo, so I am back.
It looks like the rules have changed dramatically, is there anywhere I can see a rundown of the stuff that has been changed and updated? Looks like there's several new game modes, modes of scoring, and other features.
Also, hope all the old guard who are still here are doing fine. I'm sure playing this game for the last 5 years has melted your brain, but all the same glad you've survived.

Re: Returneing to The Game
Welcome back!
Most of the scoring and options have pop ups when you create a game - so I would just go to that page and look through to see what has been updated.
The biggest changes are probably rulebook press (no press in retreats and builds). Reliability rating tracking how reliable players are and then giving that as an option to limit entry into games. Excuses turn options allow a certain number of excuses turns where the phase will be automatically extended rather than a typical NMR.
Also there are bots now you can play against.
And probably a bunch more as I don’t really have a good handle on how long ago certain things were introduced.

Whoa - no press during retreat and builds!! that is crazy to me, did I read you right? Is it just enforced silence then?

Yep! From the FAQ:Thucydides wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:21 pmWhoa - no press during retreat and builds!! that is crazy to me, did I read you right? Is it just enforced silence then?
Next, you'll choose the type of game messaging you want to play. By default, your game will be set to 'all,' or full press messaging, which means everyone can speak with everyone else at all times. If you choose 'global only,' or public press, you can only send messages globally where everyone can see them. If you choose 'no messaging,' or gunboat, you cannot send any messages at all. You can also play 'per rulebook,' which is full press during moves phases and no press at all during retreat and build phases. Face-to-face Diplomacy is generally played this way.

Yes. Technically that is the official way to play per the rulebook - hence “rulebook press”Thucydides wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 3:21 pmWhoa - no press during retreat and builds!! that is crazy to me, did I read you right? Is it just enforced silence then?

Welcome back, Thucy. I'm zultar. You may not remember me, but I'm suck a dick and I'm not new.
I miss having the time to write up those ridiculous threads to get +1s. Nowadays, I have to make announcements of new developments and such to get any love.
Poor me.

Re: Returneing to The Game
Oh, I don't play any real games, just a few games against the bots, particularly when we first set them up. I haven't played in 3-4 years, just hanging around. :)

Welcome back Thucy. Congratulations on becoming a Whole Ass Scientist, the world needs more Ass Scientists. You didn't decide to specialise? Concentrate on Piles or Flatulence? As an Amateur Gynecologist & Bum Whisperer I commend you on having gained formal qualifications.
Much has changed at webdiplomacy, PPSC was purged but it's risky discussiing that, there are the Dalek Bots Thought Police roaming the site nowadays.
I've been committed to a domestic Gulag and kept prisoner.
Beloved Dipbro Brainbomb is completely Daffy with Love for his Beautiful Elisabeth and has committed to donning the matrimonial harness.
Omnipotent Zultar is rumoured to be as wealthier now than Croesus, king Midas, Mr Zuckerberg and Elongated Musk. Apparently his Magic Cave has been refurbished and extended using the Palace of Versailles as a initial design template with the addition of the greatest excesses of Las Vegas for a touch of modernity. Nearly Omnipotent Kestas is thought to be performing the role of Petruchio in The Taming of the Shrew at The Royal Vic and auditioning for the role of Mary Poppins at Covent Gardens.
The "Free Webdiplomacy Army" have been declared a Terrorist Organisation, so be careful not to be caught in the Cultural Revolution by the Red Guard DalekBots.
