Mafia 56 Sign-ups
Mafia 56 - Corruption Among Cops
Start Date: June 8th
Phase Deadlines: 5pm EST
Phases: 48/24
Setup: 17 players (13 Town, 4 Mafia)
Special Game Rules:
When a player is killed, their full role will not be revealed. Their alignment will be revealed, but their powers (if they have any) will not be revealed.
Each player except the Chief of Police will be assigned a partner at the beginning of the game. These partners are integral to the mechanics of the game. Partners will be allowed to communicate privately with each other during day phases. They will not be allowed to communicate at night. Partners will be assigned randomly, meaning that your partner could be any alignment (town/town, mafia/town, mafia/mafia). If your partner dies, you may later be reassigned a new partner. If 3 players in the game are partnerless (besides the Chief of Police), two of them will be randomly selected and partnered together. Note that it is likely in your best interest to keep your partnerships secret due to a special NK mechanic.
There are several roles labeled A or B. These roles will be controlled by a switch, which is maintained by a corresponding clerk. The switches will begin set to A. Each night, a clerk can choose to flip their switch. If a player is 'switched off', their action will automatically fail. If a clerk is killed, their switch is permanently set to whatever it was at the time they were killed, for the duration of the game. Town players will not be told whether they are A or B in their role PM. For example, the two EMTs will receive identical role PMS.
Town Roles:
Chief of Police - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. Each night, you will choose a patroller and a target. The patroller and their partner (if they have one) will receive a message telling them whether the target scanned as clean or dirty. They will not know who the target is. You cannot assign yourself to patrol. If you are roleblocked, no one will patrol, and you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed. If the target of the patrol is killed, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed. If no one was able to patrol, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
Internal Affairs - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. Each night, you may choose 1 player. You will be told whether their partner scans as clean or dirty. You cannot self target. If the player you choose has no partner, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed. If you are roleblocked, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
Radio Specialist - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. Each night, you may choose 1 player. You will be told who that player's partner is. If the player you choose has no partner, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed. If you are roleblocked, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
EMT A/EMT B - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. Each night, you may choose 1 player. If that player is killed, you will prevent that kill. If you are set to 'off' by a clerk, you are roleblocked, or your target was not targeted for a kill, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
JOAT A/JOAT B - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. You have three abilities at your disposal during the game. You may use each ability only once, and only one ability per night. You have one interrogation (Roleblock). You have one bullet-proof-vest (Prevents yourself from dieing). You have one bug - choose a target at night. If you die, the chief of police will receive a scan on that player. If the chief of police is dead, the result will be posted in thread. If any of your action fail for any reason, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
The Good Clerk - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. You are in charge of the switch controlling between 'Dirty Lawyer' (A) and 'Evidence Tamperer' (B). Your switch begins set to 'Dirty Laywer' (A). Each night you can choose to flip your switch. The role that is not selected by your switch will automatically fail.
5x Beat Cop (VT) - You are aligned with town and scan as clean. You win when all mafia aligned players are killed. It is also possible that you have a hidden modifier.
Hidden modifiers: There are three players that will receive a Beat Cop role PM that have an additional hidden modifier. These modifiers are listed below:
Well Respected - On the first day that you do not receive any votes, your vote will count as 2 votes.
New Blood - On the first day that you receive a vote (other than a self vote), your vote will count as 0 votes.
Over-obsessed - If you vote for a player day 1, and that player is not lynched, you will perform a NK on that player during night 1. If this happens, you will also scan as dirty for N1 only.
Mafia Team:
The mafia team has a factional night kill, and a factional roleblock. 1 player will be assigned to perform each, and a player cannot perform both the nightkill and the roleblock. The roleblock will stop all night actions from working, except for the JOAT(s).
The mafia team can also attempt a double kill in place of the nightkill and roleblock. To perform a double kill, the mafia team will select two targets. If these two players are partners, they will both die. However, if they are not partners, neither player dies. One mafia member will perform both kills. If either the kill or roleblock or double kill fails for any reason, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
Individual Mafia Roles:
EMT Clerk - You are aligned with mafia and scan as dirty. You win when all town aligned players have been killed, or nothing can prevent you from reaching this point. You are in charge of the switch controlling between EMT A and EMT B. Your switch begins set to EMT A. Each night you can choose to flip your switch. The role that is not selected by your switch will automatically fail.
JOAT Clerk - You are aligned with mafia and scan as dirty. You win when all town aligned players have been killed, or nothing can prevent you from reaching this point. You are in charge of the switch controlling between JOAT A and JOAT B. Your switch begins set to JOAT A. Each night you can choose to flip your switch. The role that is not selected by your switch will automatically fail.
Dirty Lawyer - You are aligned with mafia and scan as dirty. You win when all town aligned players have been killed, or nothing can prevent you from reaching this point. Each night you may select a player. That player will scan as clean for that night. If your action fails for any reason, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
Evidence Tamperer - You are aligned with mafia and scan as dirty. You win when all town aligned players have been killed, or nothing can prevent you from reaching this point. Each night you may select a player. That player will scan as dirty for that night. If your action fails for any reason, you will receive a message alerting you that your action failed.
Order of operations:
JOAT clerk
JOAT A/B
Mafia Factional RB
EMT Clerk / Good Clerk
Any NKs and Protectives
Dirty Lawyer/Evidence Tamperer
Any investigatives
Reassign Partners if Needed
Note that the Dirty Lawyer/Evidence Tamperer acts after that JOAT, meaning that a bug result is tamper proof. NK and lynch flips are also tamper proof (they cannot be altered by mafia roles). Also note that partners are only reassigned after all other night actions, and only happen once a day/night cycle.

Put me down as a sub, for now. I might slot into a full space, but I don't know yet.

Re: Mafia 56 Sign-ups
I dont think this set up is any more complicated than the last one, it just happens to be an open setup. My goal was to keep the complexity of a role madness while not having the overpowered roles or claimability that webdip role madness games seem to have.
Is there a particular mechanic that seems too complicated, or just in general there is too much going on?

There is way too much going on - for my liking at least. I've been known to run some fairly role-filled setups but nothing like this. FWIW the last large game was too complicated, as well, in my opinion.
I hope you've got a good co-GM signed up.

Re: Mafia 56 Sign-ups
Sorry Squigs I'm not trying to sound super negative. I know there are setups that I've run that some people prefer not to play in because they like Vanilla games. (Hi Ghug!)
I hope this is a fun game, I'll just sit this one out.

Does this mean the player you end the day on? Or the first vote? Or MULTIPLE deaths of you vote for many people during the day!!!? (That would be wild, eh?)

Re: Mafia 56 Sign-ups
whats to stop town from massclaiming day1? even three of he vts can be confirmed mechanically if a plan is made for that.
Re: Mafia 56 Sign-ups
Okay, I think im gonna scrap the hidden modifiers. If we do that, then mafia should be fine claiming between a VT/EMT/JOAT. That would mean a massclaim only clears 4 players.
