I know that the political compass test is fraught with inaccurate wording, misses no-comment options, and relies on leading phrases and words to slant a number of its questions, not to mention disallows nuance, let alone philosophical skepticism to certain point issues, but I'm curious where people in our niche of the internet gaming world stand on it. If you care to, please take the test and link to your results as well as/or paste your deviations below.

I'd love for people to refrain from name calling since we are not talking about specific issues, as well as taking moral positions on chart placement (especially concerning the many caveats of the test).

If you've noticed yourself move up/down or left/right in the past, or recently, by all means mention it. I have moved more to the right in the last few years, perhaps because I live in a conservative nation (Japan) and have had to face the inaccuracy of certain political prejudices of mine as regards conservatives/Conservatism in general, but I think the test is unfair as many of the obviously right/left-wing points in the test haven't options approaching my positions, or which I felt didn't make sense. I randomly assigned an disagree or agree to many points.

I've moved a bit from a year ago when i took this. Maybe I will start charting my change over time. Last time I took it I was -0.24 / -1.13

So I've just moved further into my political leaning (or the margin of error for choosing strongly where i chose just the normal option before)

A lot of the questions were bull, but it put me pretty much squarely in the middle of the left/libertarian quadrant... which honestly is about right.

It would be interesting to see a heat map overlaid on that grid for where people cluster.

There was an economic/social test, too, which I took, and which was more nuanced. In that test, my results were different. Perhaps averaging as many tests as possible is a good idea, if untenable because of the effort.

I much prefer the 8 values test that Kingroid posted; it's much more nuanced than just "liberty vs. authority", since there's much more to social values than just that. Here's one that I took back in September.

The cool thing I've found is that at least offline people of all persuasions are completely nice and willing to chat one to one about anything, their conversations pointed with candour and turn taking. Online, or in mobs/groups, the human element is eliminated.

On a recent trip to California, I smoked marijuana with a Trump supporter and sipped local brews with a left-leaning libertarian, talking everything and nothing and having an awesome time. People are awesome in person. I miss them.

There were about 8 questions that I'm technically neutral on (as an issue), but the wording (all, never, etcetera) forced me to to strongly agree or disagree because only Sith use absolutes.

I have a feeling that I'm a completely boring middle of the roader if those questions were less forcefully worded. And this is a strange position for me as I read feminism and post-colonialism in university and came to Japan an ardent socialist.

Maybe it's just life to change strongly held opinions/beliefs, or maybe it was a track I was on but came to late/early. I hear that political leanings have some roots in one's own biology and personality. That makes sense. My wife is a Liberal-party voter but is probably more conservative than I am on most social and fiscal issues. She just hates Abe-san!

I have to say, though, that these tests are balanced on an american perspective, probably. While my results are pretty spotted on, being European probably makes me having higher results in some way (in Europe social and political agendas and issues are very different from the US, so I think being tolerant in respect to social issues like gay marriage or abortion makes me sound a bit more democratic and libertarian than I actually am)

Indeed, the absolutism of the questions, even in 8 values, jars. As for being European, I know a hell of a lot of Europeans who don’t represent the ‘tolerant’ or meek image Americans and Canadians are meant to except as the norm. In fact anecdotally my European friends are more hardline against progressive values. That’s a sample that is just anecdotal and I’m not sure why about a third of my European friends are like that, but that is a far larger number than my American/Canadian/Australian/English friend group. Either Europe is changing or the opinions that weren’t given voice or had t reason to be voiced or otherwise, are coming to the fore.
