This we my first thought as well after seeing the sub.

Even until now I'm operating under the assumption we have two doctors, but I'm losing that feeling a bit. The whole 'woe is me' post feels out of place.

If it wasn't flavor it wouldn't be in a flavor post. If worcej is trying to convey game mechanics through flavor, that's bad GMing.

I may have missed that. To clarify - I haven't actually read any of the flavor of the game, and rarely do. Hence that whole Tom Hanks confusion earlier in the game.

Potentially. But it's bad play and bad practice to use flavor to relay information. If I had known this was the case, I may not have signed up.
