##CALL GM:
In light of the current discussion in the "Mafia Master Post" thread, do you intend for this game to take a stricter line on abuse / vulgarity / personal attacks? Is it your intention that players should PM you if they feel they are being unreasonably insulted during the game?
For the avoidance of doubt, this is a 100% serious query.

Confirm.
In light of the current discussion in the "Mafia Master Post" thread, I intend to take a stricter line on abuse/personal attacks. I obviously won't be making this kind of comment in the game thread, but if the game devolves into the kind of abuse that has prompted more than one post-game discussion on the need for a code of conduct, I will let the GM know that I'm withdrawing.

Surely, in light of the discussion in the Mafia Master Post thread, should abuse rear its head, rather than immediately withdrawing, you ought to give the GM the opportunity to resolve the situation first?Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 1:49 pmConfirm.

Re: M55 Signup Thread
The point of the discussion is how to get players to stop derailing games with vitriol. It is not to force the GM to cleanup when players cannot control themselves (although the threat of GM sanctions is obviously part of it). And more to the point, I don't want to play in games that are derailed by abuse, so I am giving other players for whom this is a problem the opportunity to avoid the situation first.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 2:00 pmSurely, in light of the discussion in the Mafia Master Post thread, should abuse rear its head, rather than immediately withdrawing, you ought to give the GM the opportunity to resolve the situation first?Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 1:49 pmConfirm.

Since this may be changing the tone of some people's play, how will we learn what you decide to be "abuse"?Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 2:20 pmThe point of the discussion is how to get players to stop derailing games with vitriol. When you quit the game, or before that?

For example:
Is this abuse, or not? On which side of your boundaries does it fall?

Re: M55 Signup Thread
Since I believe it is against the spirit of the rules and "good sportsmanship" in general to threaten to quit, there won't be an announcement. And if that changes the tone of some people's play for the better, good. However, I do intend to be better about calling out abusive behavior when I see it, so that might serve as your warning light.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 2:23 pmSince this may be changing the tone of some people's play, how will we learn what you decide to be "abuse"?Foxcastle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 2:20 pmThe point of the discussion is how to get players to stop derailing games with vitriol. Re: M55 Signup Thread
In diplomacy, most good players are careful in communication... they think ahead considering likely reactions to words and deeds. In here, similarly, we need to consider not merely the information we wish to impart, but also how it will be taken. Don't push buttons that we know will cause explosions. Some folk are less sensitive... Others huddle when insulted. Know yourself, know your game-mates, and write comments with a full awareness of what will result. Be purposeful. Be aware of your purpose.
