Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
When you're on the game create page and you select No Messaging and Classic a new checkbox appears under the messaging dropdown called "Fill Empty Spots with Bots:" and if checked will start a game at the normal start time even if it does not get filled. If there aren't at least 2 humans in the game it will cancel though.
If you want to ensure it's only 2, 3, 4, etc people, make it private, and only give the password to the people you want to join and the bots will fill the rest.

Can it be considered an Open Position? So that humans can take over the positions(I 100% feel people will team up on bots that cant speak...
Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
This option only exists for anonymous gunboats, so that shouldn't be a problem.FlaviusAetius wrote: ↑Mon Oct 21, 2019 3:51 amCan it be considered an Open Position? So that humans can take over the positions(I 100% feel people will team up on bots that cant speak...

The bot's not talking will not be a problem since per my message it's just no messaging games.

True, you can sometimes hear them repeating "exterminate" in a dalek voice as they all attack you together, especially when you're Austria.

Thanks so much for adding this functionality, it's a lot of fun getting to practice on my own schedule, without having to rush when I'm busy, or wait for others to enter their orders.
On my 7th bot game Commander Data VII, I finally solo'd, playing as England.
A criticism of the bots: they seem to often miss (fairly obvious) opportunities to cut support. If the Russian bot in Berlin hadn't been so passive in 1903-1905, the game may have gone a different way.

It's there ANY possible way to even survive as Austria? Seems like the AI defaults to all three neighbors to immediately attack.

Yes, use supports to signal the desire for an alliance to the bot like a normal human player. I just tried it out, http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=287589
Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
I’ve played many bot games and in my experience, Italy attacks Austria in 01 4 times out of 5. If that happens, I haven’t found a viable way to survive. However, if Italy doesn’t, then they usually try a Lepanto and you stand a good chance to survive and even win.

In this game, Italy attacked me (Austria) but I managed to get a Draw. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=251697
By supporting Russia into Bulgaria, I gained a Russian ally which was my salvation. As Jmo suggested in his ealier post.

Thanks, I’m going to try that next time.Claesar wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 10:32 amIn this game, Italy attacked me (Austria) but I managed to get a Draw. http://webdiplomacy.net/board.php?gameID=251697

THIS. Italy is usually very aggressively anti-Austria in S01. You cannot forge an alliance with A Ven Tyr and A Rom Ven, and Russia usually goes for Galicia too.dipperjay wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2020 2:46 amI’ve played many bot games and in my experience, Italy attacks Austria in 01 4 times out of 5. If the development team is open for a reprogramming, maybe have the Italy AI default to A Ven H and A Rom Apu for the first move. 4/5 times, Italy would be doing this.
With that said, I might have to play Italy this way from the start in the real games.

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
We cannot reprogram and it wouldn't help. The bots have learned this by studying our moves.

Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
Then logically, Italy should always play this way. Damn the Lepanto!
Re: AI bots on webDiplomacy: Skynet edition!
Kestas Bot and friends are trained by humanoids, like you and me. Collectively, the humanoids determined the course of action the AI is most likely to take in any given scenario. It appears that approximately 4/5 of the time, the humanoids are not that logical.
