and just to clear the air, I was never upset about being modkilled. the people who said I did it on purpose and that I should be banned however should know that I was enjoying the game. it was hard. we were losing. but I had a plan to shoot that night. it wouldve shot a town anyway unfortunately.
So, its whatever. sorry we didnt fare better.

I think unethical is the wrong word. But against the literal reading of the rules is perhaps the reason. One is a vote for something (anything) and the other isn’t a vote.

Personally I think "unvote" is entirely pointless. Often newbies see people doing it and wrongly assume that to move from one suspect to another they are required to "unvote" in between.
I have previously argued that "unvote" should simply not be a recognised option. It should be an invalid command. It should have the same effect as typing "##Underpants" - i.e. nothing. I would much rather *require* that everyone ends the day with their vote on a suspect, with "No Lynch" a valid option if they really cannot do that. But I was shouted down by the majority, at the time.
But this isn't a question of ethics. The rules currently allow you to "unvote" during play, but you're *not* allowed to end on that option. You, Spongebomb, were modkilled in the last game, not because you did anything "unethical", but because you did something in violation of the rules. Now I don't think that rule is perfect, but it is the rule that has been in place for several years and over 20 games, several of which you played in, as agreed by the Council and used consistently by the community over that time.

We had to add the rule to require a vote because way backwhen (pre M25 or so, I think) people would purposefully leave themselves on unvote and it was ridiculous for the game. We also didn't use to have posting requirements.

Sure, I'll join. Currently my last game here was a trainwreck, so want to change that.
