one of my first ever advanced spreadsheets had upto 18 levels of nestled formula's, within which were references to dozens of other spreadsheets. It was a not so clever workaround for a lack of knowledge, and my supervisors were on summer break.

Sufficient to say, that file took quite some time to open or save. They were not impressed.

copy-pasting the nonsense in a single cell to word occupied half a page. It was glorious.

It did convince the IT people that I needed a super-computer as a replacement though, because obviously my work was very heavy.

Well, that's terrifying, Vecna. I did a project recently that only had a dozen nested IF statements that referenced 18 other sheets. But I named the sheets A-R, so that was a lot of fun trying to keep cell references and sheet references straight in my head.
