A while ago, I made a variant in which I tried to improve on the World Diplomacy IX variant that is available on webDip.

This would be my suggestion for a new variant. I think my variant allows for a wider range of (opening) strategies, which in turn makes the variant more balanced. For example, in the way the World IX variant is laid out, it makes most sense for Pacific-Russia to open aggressively against China, and for Ghana to do so against Libya; this heavily contributes to China and Libya being the worst countries. In the World X variant I made I think there are fewer of such 'obvious' openings.

It has an average moves of like 13 turns, and is very painful to look at.
On a serious note, I suggest classic fog of war. Fog of war is a great variant, and webdip would be greatly improved with the addition of it.

Fog of War is per Oli, a code mess, and would need a lot of work to be converted to webdip, so it is unfortunately out.

We tried Known World before and its custom aspects break the site engine so it is also out.

Haven't looked into any of the others mentioned.
