It was night on Persephone, some of the elation of the afternoon's lynching having settled into despondency as poor Kaylee turned out to be as innocent as she'd claimed. Many folk were drowning their sorrows in a local bar - or someone else's sorrows. Anyway, there was plenty of drowning going on and by the sound of the uproarious laughter through the windows the tears were well and truly forgotten for now. There was business to be done, and between them Badger, Fanty and Mingo seemed to have cornered the black market in bootlegged liquor and hangover medication.

"Another case of scotch? Why of course," Fanty said, giving the gruff spacer an oily smile and accepting a handful of notes. Evading Alliance customs was good business, and he passed the bundle to his twin as Mingo hefted the small ship crate onto their table.

"Another, brother dearest?"

"Of course dear brother."

The twin set out for the back room, levering open the shelf of more legitimate goods and walked into the darkness to retrieve another box.
BANG. A shot rang out, muffled by the bar structure and a half-dozen women and men ran into the back.
They found the man laying half-sprawled down the stairs, his eyes wide in shock below a dark hole in his forehead oozing crimson and grey.

"Mingo," Mal observed from the crowd.

"Fanty is prettier."
