Saudi Arabia finds five scapegoats to take the blame for murdering Journalist
The Saudi Arabian (In)Justice system has convicted five individuals of the murder of a journalist in one of their Embassies. This looks like window dressing so that members of the Saudi Royal Family can dodge thier responsibilities and their involvement can be denied.

Now Trump has political cover as he ramps up support for the Saudis and their renting unoccupied rooms on his properties.

He's not claiming it has anything to do with Russia. He's saying that everyone is going on about the malign influence of Russia all over the place, without focusing on what he is calling the "real travesty" of Saudi Arabia.Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 10:02 amYou've lost me. Yeah... but it's very much apples and oranges. Russia is a genuine threat to Western Democracy whilst Saudi Arabia is a corrupt absolute monarchy that is more a threat to itself and neighbours than anyone else. Ultimately we should very much be focused on Russia.Jamiet99uk wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 6:38 pmHe's not claiming it has anything to do with Russia. Out of curiosity, a partisan hack for which party?
Re: Saudi Arabia finds five scapegoats to take the blame for murdering Journalist
You seems to have some very magical thinking going on, where Western Democracy doesn't mean the Imperlaism and clientism that supports Saudi Arabia, is 'us' and automatically good. And any challenge to that is 'them' and therefore bad.Octavious wrote: ↑Thu Dec 26, 2019 7:11 pmYeah... but it's very much apples and oranges. Russia and China have their human rights violations and political repression. Meanwhile the Capitalist West extracts wealth from developing client states, and destabilised those who turn to Socialism (rejecting the US corporations greed in favour of their own peoples), the resulting migrant crisis has left the US to put children in cages.
As much as 'Russia is a threat' sounds like it is more important. Supposedly free Western democracies are meant to have the capacity to represent the views of their populations. So criticising and focusing on the actions of your own govt rather than being distracted by what Russia is or isn't doing (which is is mostly trying to defend itself against 'western' expansion).
Criticise the US relation ship with Saudi Arabia (US 'military aid' being funneled into privately own corporations, smells a lot like corruption, Saudis get weapons, corporations get profits, and the US govt gets an ally in an oil producing region, only the US tax payer is getting fucked over). Criticise the children in cages, and ICE abuses. Go out and do something to help people... Worrying about Russia will not get you very far.
