Democrats lost this election because they were completely out of touch. After all the division of the Trump years, Democrats doubled down on the division. Anyone that doesn't agree with Democrats on absolutely everything is a racist, fascist, sexist, bigot etc, etc.

The "red" speech by Biden a couple of years ago was an absolute travesty. The goal of the Democrats should have been "I understand you don't feel listened to, that you feel ignored but Trump is not the answer". Instead they went all in on the "MAGA people are bad" (which really became if you don't vote Democrat you are a bad person)...and now are wondering why they didn't change any minds. Who knew?

Democrats have been complaining for years that people are voting against their own interest...but now they are also complaining that people are selfishly voting their own interests. Which is it?

For the record both me and my wife voted third party because both parties were s*** (my wife was a Democratic volunteer in 2020). Our votes didn't matter anyway because we live in a Democratic one party state.

I think one of the biggest issues in politics right now is the use of wild hyperbole. For example, Christianity in the US is the weakest it has been in our lifetimes. The claims that the US is going to become some Christian nationalist state is not even remotely in touch with reality.

Dear Octavious, you may correct me if I am wrong yet I will suggest that:

More prisoners are executed per annum in the USA than in Holland (Does Holland have the death penalty?)
I would expect that on a "per capita" basis the execution of prisoners is higher in the USA than in Holland.

Ah, you're referring to the American justice system. It tends to look very much the same regardless of the colour of the party in charge.

When you spoke of death squads my mind initially went to the hordes of lunatics on scooters who had a night of great fun hunting down Jews in Amsterdam a few days ago. Of course you could easily have been talking about illegal immigration into Europe. Only two and a half thousand dead and missing this year, though, compared to over 4,000 by the end of last. Poland has gone and suspended the right to asylum completely.

If this happened in America the media would spend an age discussing it. Because it's Europe it is soon forgotten

Hyperbole has become much easier for Trump, he can now claim that he will be the best president since himself. That's much less contentious than claiming to be the best president since Lincoln.

Sounds like it could serve as a study case of how people can bubble themselves by taking offence at dissent.
