Why are you here?

You have joined this Diplomacy site, signed up for an account, and your total activity on the site can be summarised as follows:

- Taken part in 0 Diplomacy games
- Posted right-wing troll shit on the forum 10 times
- That's all

If you don't like this community, I suggest you fuck off.

Otherwise, obvious shitty troll is obvious.

there are no mods here, there are no longer people here, so you've successfully reduced your echo chamber down to a single person and scared everyone else away

this board used to be a lot of fun

Alright.
Let's have some fun.
I'll debate you, troll.

Can you set out, in sensible terms, why a left-wing worldview is "cancer"?

It was less about being scared away, and more that the powers that be foolishly came to the bizarre conclusion that people who love a political board game set in the early 20th century don't have a natural interest in politics, and hid the political forum away. Starved of new blood it mostly died, and a lot of the site's personality died with it. Now the site still exists, but the fanatical loyalty members used to have is largely a thing of the past. Finding people daft enough to be mods and organisers has therefore become rather tricky.

Still, for the most part the leadership achieved their aim and the forum has become a safe space where people are largely free from being offended or challenged by new ideas... Much like the surface of Mars is. All a damned shame, really, but the battles were fought and lost long ago and the damage, I suspect, is permanent.

Who were you, out of interest?

While my politics has little in common with Oct's, I concur strongly with the above account of events.

Well.I am.going to disagree with both jampoodle & Octavious.
Firstly in my opinion octavious gives a bleaker view of the transformation of the forum & consequences than the reality. For example to state that the shortage of almighty mods is due to the burdens of managing the bwave new forum with more decorum and nothing else is simplistic and innacurate in my opinion.

Continuing with the theme of the simplisyic and innacurate I turn to jampoodle's thread title.. Your worldview is cancer
Provocative? Yes
Intelligent? No
Jampoodle doesn't define the group he asserts hold cancerous views, or accurately define what constitutes cancerous leftist views, philosophies that he abhors.
His explanation of those cancerous views, if that is what it purports to be, is a flippant remark about a CNN breakroom, hardly a clarifying synopsis of a set of philosophical / political views to which he objects.

This thread from jampoodle, it's what i would expect from a dilletante dullard provocatuer, rather "beige & boring", doesn't even qualify as worthy of first year university level tutorial political debate standard.

Nevertheless I will indulge our prodigal jampoodle and offer this.
I make the following assumptions & cast jampoodle approximately near Ayn Rand in his views, a good free marketeer of that type who would oppose of this assertion.

I say that it is pro~capitalistic and not anti~capitalist for a nation state to tax businesses to fund universal free high quality public education including tertiary level education and universal free high quality public health services.

If a nation state wants the highest GDP per capita then having the best educated, healthiest population is a fundamental requirement.and the private sector that benefits from that, has to pay for the best quality human capital to be as profitable as possible. USER PAYS ~ that's one of those 2worders that is beloved by economic rationalists & free marketeers.

There you go jampoodle, that's entry level political economic discussion if ypu want to get serious.

I cite the examples of the Post Second World War rise of Singapore and the modern German economy as examples of the benefits to capitalism.of these policies, universal public education and public health services paid for by taxes on businesses.

The problem with this analysis is that I didn't state this. Not so much getting the wrong end of the stick, but grabbing a different stick entirely. There are very few burdens in moderating the forum, and if the rate of spam deletion is anything to go by the current amount of forum moderation is pretty minimal.

No, the problem is that the the great and the good of site management were always drawn from the community, whose natural home was the forum. Traditionally the community was healthy and bustling, full of energy and spirit and people who loved the site, and a glorious mix of old names and new. The biggest recruitment problem was with discouraging unsuitable applicants without insulting them.

The community is largely gone. New blood is virtually none existent, and what little life remains is mostly made up of some crusty old nostalgic fools who aren't quite ready to move on. There's just about enough life to keep things ticking over, but the passion is gone. It reminds me a little of the last few years of Facebook Diplomacy, which was a depressing place to visit.

i was just trolling originally, nothing to analyze, its no big deal. im not really an asshole and i dont wish any ill will *unless* you voted for Biden, in which case, i hope a mosquito bites you in your bikini area

The old forum 6 years ago did frequently have political threads.

Here's the last one I could find on the old forum:

6 years ago? That seems rather recent. When did i last play diplomacy?

I would like to Mitchell up on his discussion,
If a nation state wants the highest GDP per capita then having the best educated, healthiest population is a fundamental requirement.
The issue i take isn't with the hypothetical economic argument here, it is with the principle. If a country treats people like capital - investments which need a good return, then this makes a certain amount of sense. You want them healthy and high value. But you also destroy culture, the highest gdp per capita does not necessarily equal the Best quality of life.

Education becomes solely about job creation/employability. Music and art don't need to be taught to the masses, they can enter reality TV show competitions to win a chance at stardom... Meanwhile society is shaped by its policies, which mean treating people like transactions. You don't do someone a favour unless they pay for it...

These things are bad for human welfare and mental health even if every paid for interaction technically increase GDP (so long as the state can count it).

Overall i agree with Socialised Healthcare and Education, just not for those purposes. We should build a society with Universal Basic Income, so people can pursue happiness. Can build interesting things, donate their time to volunteer projects, and work of they want. We should automate as much as possible, and require the companies running the machines to contribute their fair share to the UBI of everyone else.

And we should do it last century, because this century is going to be a shit storm of climate disasters.
