Free Navalny!
The Russian opposition leader is now a political prisoner. The Russian people should be allowed to choose their leadership in a free and fair election. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/02/worl ... putin.html
Re: And Suu Kyi!
After the military caused a coup because of made-up "voter fraud" concerns.
I wonder where they got that idea from?

Screw her. She defended the indefensible; the military's ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims.
Re: And Suu Kyi!
I believe her problem was that she was a weak leader. And she is too old, her time has passed.Matticus13 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 11:12 pmScrew her. She defended the indefensible; the military's ethnic cleansing of Rohingya Muslims.
She couldn't stand up to the army...who were essentially still in control anyway given the way the constitution is written. I don't even know why they needed a coup.

Re: And Suu Kyi!
I doubt she had a great deal of choice. The only reason she wasn't done away with years ago is because she is the daughter of the general who founded the Burmese military, and military types (even the bad sort) don't like killing their own. But they only have so much patience, and direct condemnation wouldn't have gone down well.Matticus13 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 02, 2021 11:12 pmScrew her. What she was in danger of achieving was turning the veneer of democracy, which was very useful to the military in order to facilitate trade deals and the like with the West, into a genuine force. Can't have that. People might get the idea that they should be in charge.

By whom, out of interest? Biden has adopted Trump's America First foreign policy with levels of enthusiasm bordering on the obscene, and Europe has been too feeble to attempt all but the most modest foreign adventures without American support for over half a century.

I shall waste no time in writing a strongly worded letter to Putin's mother... or at least that lass who claims to be Putin's mother... and if that fails then by God I propose we hit him hard and hit him fast with a major — and I mean major — leaflet campaign

and while he's reeling from that, we’d follow up with a car boot sale, some street theatre, and possibly even some benefit concerts. He won't know what's hit him.

I suspect he won't know any of that is taking place at all, so technically you're not wrong.

Hmmm... as much as your pervasive negativity is distressing, you may well have a point. Can I ask you to lend your support by super-gluing your face to the road outside of the Russian embassy? I hear that's what all the cool young lefties are doing these days

Is this some new definition of imperialism that I'm not aware of?
