Health care services are one of the reasons I am damn glad to be an Australian. Our public health care services might not be perfect, but I support the policy principle of having a decent taxpayer funded public health system and therefore don't engage in excessive tax minimisation & pay my taxes.. Early December 17 I had minor surgery, in a regional country hospital, one of the GP doctors at my local doctors GP practice does this stuff, so I had a free appointment with him to set it up, free appointment with the anaesthetist, then "day" surgery..get there at 8:30 am, out by 2:30 pm after a few hours in recovery & 40 odd stitches... Then the two follow up visits to the GP Practice, stitches out. All covered by the public health service.

One regular "extra" bit of health cover I do pay is about $Aus 180 per year to the St John's Ambulance Service, which gets both myself and the Fire Breathing MemSahib "full ambulance" cover including Air Ambulance flights.

Americans are eating washing machine capsules? I suppose if your national cuisine includes delights like grits it's not too much of a surprise.

If you got it through work, it may be less than you think. Read your policy because there are some pretty poor ones to save your employer money.

You are often wrong, Jeff, but you've never been this wrong before. Not even when you spell Geoff wrong are you this wrong.

how's that for irony. The "conservative" guy lives on the public dole as a federal employee with the most luxurious socialist benefits available in the U.S. and gets his health care from a non-profit health insurer based on the strong support of labor unions. I guess that's kind of telling

The only thing "telling" here is that you're an asshole.

Well ogion is an asshole and wrong. I am not a federal employee. I am a retired naval officer. However, I do not receive a federal retirement. I do not live on the dole. I do earn income from rental property and other investments. My healhcare comes from my hardworking but soon to be retired wife who happens to work for the insurance carrier I mentioned. In like ogion who cannot even get a real job as an attorney but lives off suckers who fall for his misguided vision no longer serving the mission of the founder. But then aren't all lawyers parasites?
