The King is Dead!
Hi everyone!
A few years ago, we played a variant called "The King is Dead" over at vDip, and later here at webDip. Basically, the premise is similar to games like Mafia, Secret Hitler, Werewolf, etc., where there are multiple teams competing over different objectives, except we place it in a Diplomacy board. The premise is as such:
The King has died, and a new king has been crowned. However, there are some who think there should be no king (The Rebels). There are those loyal to the King (The Knights), and there are those who seek to become the new King themselves (Traitors). The objectives are as follows:
The King and his Knights want to eliminate the Rebels and the Traitor.
The Rebels want to kill the King and the traitor.
The Traitor wants to eliminate the King and become the new King (achieve a solo).
Alignments are secret, but everyone knows who the king is.
Generally, there are an equal number of Rebels to Knights + the King, and 1-2 Traitors. For Classic, this means 1 King, 1 Traitor, 2 Knights, 3 Rebels. For Modern, it was 1 King, 3 Knights, 4 Rebels, 2 Traitors.
Depending on interest, we can play any variant, really.

Sounds like "Bang!"
Are all identities secret at the beginning of the game?

Or did you mean who plays what power? I presume this is non-anon, as it wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

Yeah, I guess my reading comprehension is zero. But that quote from the OP answer my question. Sorry for being unnecessary.

I'm confused as to how the Diplomacy map comes into play - mind linking previous games and the specific rules of those games and/or of this game?

Re: The King is Dead!
You play a game of Full Press Diplomacy. That's what this is about. For instance, Chaqa will roll Austria and be the King (public). You're Turkey and your role PM says you're a Rebel (secret). You must now try to eliminate Chaqa Austria, find the traitor and eliminate that player too. But you might not want to attack Chaqa immediately as everyone will know you're a Rebel. Russia and/or Italy might be loyal Knights and attack you.ChippeRock wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:59 pm...

Re: The King is Dead!
So basically it's a Diplomacy game with predetermined but secret alliances/targets. The King/Knight faction wants to draw after killing everyone outside the faction, the Rebel faction wants to draw after killing everyone outside the faction, the Traitor wants to solo, and outside of the King, no one knows who's who.
Is that the right of it? Sounds fascinating.

Well, in that case, it sounds far more interesting than Mafia.Claesar wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 4:36 pmYou play a game of Full Press Diplomacy. That's what this is about. Are roles revealed after a country is eliminated?
Will the game be unranked?

Re: The King is Dead!
Wait, are the identities of ALL of the other players (besides King & your own) kept secret?
Re: The King is Dead!
I expect the game to be non-anon (so everyone knows you're Turkey), but of course all other roles are secret (so no one knows you're a Rebel).ChippeRock wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 5:16 pmWait, are the identities of ALL of the other players (besides King & your own) kept secret?

There's a part of me tempted to be the third person to ask this question.Claesar wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 5:52 pmI expect the game to be non-anon (so everyone knows you're Turkey), but of course all other roles are secret (so no one knows you're a Rebel).ChippeRock wrote: ↑Mon Jul 01, 2019 5:16 pmWait, are the identities of ALL of the other players (besides King & your own) kept secret?
