First Time Player confused about how orders work
So I know that everyone must submit their order before resolution occurs.
But the rules don't say if the orders are resolved automatically by the website? ie once orders are processed, does the map just update automatically.
Or is there some 'game master' that has to read through all the orders and update the map him/herself?
thanks

Re: First Time Player confused about how orders work
Hi and welcome,
the orders are solved automatically in WebDip. For some time now, there are even bots that are able to play (I mean submit intelligent moves, of course not negociate), which is far more difficult to implement !
Once the orders are solved (you're notified about it), you'll have to refresh the page to see the updated map.

Re: First Time Player confused about how orders work
nice thanks!
Would you recommend a game with a bot? ie we have 6 players so far.
Also, the other players are brand new and read the Intro to Diplomacy page but it doesnt discuss how you get new units during fall.
Will the game mention this as we play?

Re: First Time Player confused about how orders work
Hey there,
Bots are good ways to fill games if you can't get enough players to join.
However, if you want a 7th, I'd be happy to join and explain any mechanics as you go along. As for your specific question, your builds are calculated after each fall phase based on the number of supply centers (the dots on the map) that you control after that phase. Once you control it, it's yours until someone else takes it. But to control it, you need to be sitting in it in the fall. If you have more supply centers than units, you build in the winter phase.

thanks.
but what i meant is that how does anyone know what you told me (about the fall)
ie are these rules explained as the game goes?

Re: First Time Player confused about how orders work
Game doesn't really tell you as you go, it's assumed that you know.
But basically at the bottom of the game page you have options for what to do with your units in a given turn (move, hold, support, retreat, disband, [or in the build phase only] build in an open home supply center). You enter your options, save, then hit "ready". When deadline hits or all players enter "ready" (whichever happens first) the site auto processes turn actions and moves to the next phase.
Phase order
Spring moves
Spring retreats (if any)
Fall moves
Fall retreats (if any)
Fall builds/disbands (if any) (some sites call this "winter" instead of fall fwiw)
then back to spring

also, if your unit leaves a territory (not a territory with a supply center), is it still yours?

Re: First Time Player confused about how orders work
I would recommend just playing a game versus bots to see what the game is.
There is no such thing as ownership of non-SC territories. You never own them and you never lose them.

Also if you haven't already done so, try the "Intro to Diplomacy" page in the help section.
But the best way to learn is to dive straight in.
