Question regarding a standoff situation

Good evening,

I came across a question regarding standoffs/ upport cuts. Actually I just want to make sure I got that right.

It is similar to the situation in Avalon Hill's Official Rulebook: Diagram 17.
There a situation between Russia and Germany is depicted.

Russia has three unites involved: a fleet in the Baltic Sea, an army in Prussia and one in Warsaw.

Germany has two unites involved: a fleet in Berlin and an army in Silesia.

Then the orders are:
Russia: F Bal – Pru; A Pru – Sil; A War S Pru – Sil;
Germany: F Ber – Pru; A Sil S Ber – Pru

The result is that the army coming from Prussia dislodges the army in Silesia, while the fleets in the Baltic and Berlin bounce over Prussia. As the support of the dislodged army in Silesia is cut.

Now, assume Germany has another army in Munich and orders. Mun S A Sil.

If I get the rules right, the army in Silesia is then not dislodged, which means it’s support is not cut as it is supporting Ber to Pru the province the attack is coming from. So now the army in Prussia is dislodged and Berlin moves to Prussia while Baltic is bounced back.

Do I get this right?

Attacks always cut support, whether or not the attacked unit is dislodged.

The German move Pru>Sil cuts the support. You cannot support an attack on yourself to prevent the support being cut.

Germany doesn’t move Pru->Sil
Russia does.

If you mean Russia cuts the German support from Berlin to Prussia given from Silesia by moving Prussia to Silesia, I want to point out the rule that support isn’t cut if the attack is coming from a province to which support is given.

OP you have it right. In your second example, the Russian A Pru fails to dislodge the German A Sil. Therefore, the Russian A Pru cannot cut support coming from Sil for an attack on itself, and the German F Ber will dislodge the Russian A Pru.
