New Search Page

#1 Post by jmo1121109 » Sun Mar 10, 2019 2:30 am

One of the most requested features of site history has been to search for games by name. The current search functionality for users and games was both severely lacking so I made the new page called "search" you should now see in your menu bar. I also made the header have more space so the entire row of menu options can fit below the logo, but this change is to a cached file so you may not see the extra header space until the next time your browser refreshes your cache.

Quick highlights:
1. Searching for users by type, such as donator, banner, mod, etc
2. sorting by columns, allows you to target the users or games you're looking for.
3. New information about games available. This page is now the first place on the site you can see how many people are spectating a game and see if the game has a Game Director assigned to it.
4. The parameters are all in the URL, so you can easily share a search on the forum or via pm or bookmark it for later use.

While I have done a lot of testing, and the mod team has done even more, it's entirely possible certain search parameters will not work. If you notice something not working please let me know here.

Thanks to our donators for making additions to the site like this possible!

For example, here is a link to see all of the games in the ODC 2019 tournament:
http://www.webdiplomacy.net/detailedSea ... bmit=Check

Edit: Please note that if you use the site at https://www, https://webdiplomacy, or http:webdiplomacy you'll need to adjust my url to that. Since logging into 1 of the 4 virtual directories does not log you into all of them. Yes, it's dumb, yes we'll fix it at some point.

Planned fixes:

Edit:
Fixed Issues
1. Time joined column now shows year instead of time.
2. Search ignores leading and trailing white space when searching for users and games by name.

It is interesting that people are still spectating finished games!

Nice!

There is no "next" button to, say, display results 51--100?

The spectating record never is deleted from the DB, so you'll be able to see how many people were watching it at the time the game ended.

With the added Search link up top, when I am in the forum there are so many links that the logo covers up half of the home link. I don't run into this problem on mobile, just my desktop. I'm running Chrome. Not a big deal, just an aesthetics thing.

Edit: I now see that there is a message about caches and such causing this issue. How do I fix this?

Chrome, but I figured it out now. Although now the logo is sitting up top which gives the header a lot more space and it looks altogether too tall compared to before. Guess I'll get used to it.

The size difference is exactly 20 pixels it’s the size of the menu line of words and should be hardly noticeable

Can you post a screenshot? Have you tried opening an incognito window and logging into webdip?

Hmmm. I don't have that problem. Just tried on Chrome on my home machine (Windows) and my work box (Linux) and it seems like everything scales OK

I also tried on Chrome on Android and it seemed fine too (looks more like the second image).

Are you potentially opening webdip on a high definition laptop? What is the resolution?

It fixed it when I went into my browser settings and cleared my cache (not my cookies though).

You just need to clear your cache and it will move the image up.

Here's a handy diagram of how to clear your cache on any desktop or laptop
https://fabricdigital.co.nz/assets/How- ... raphic.jpg

This shouldn't be a problem for anyone on mobile because the header is dynamically adjusted based on the number of menu elements on a screen size under a certain width

Think we could be throw a column sort function on there just as gravy?
