New forum; introduction and next steps
New forum; introduction and next steps
Welcome to the new (proposed) forum; phpBB3 integrated with webDip's user accounts and given a webDip theme.
What we want to do now is let people try it out on a small scale in this semi-hidden mode, and see if there are any performance / config issues.
Over time we may make changes based on feedback, and as we become satisfied it can replace the current built-in forum we will start a process to migrate the old posts into this forum, disable the old forum, and integrate this forum with the home page.
If you spot any issues or have any thoughts or questions this is as good a place as any.
Cheers,
Kestas / webdiplomacy.net team

Re: New forum; introduction and next steps
Seems appropriate to thank those who donated to the development drive earlier this year, and the mods for running it.
This project isn't directly related to the funds, but the response definitely showed the interest in new functionality and is motivational (even though I can't spend as much time as I'd like).

Oops, authentication stopped working after an update which overwrote a configuration options. This should now be sorted.

Re: New forum; introduction and next steps
Happy to see webDIp got a real forum! Hopefully there'll be a separate Off-Topic subforum to isolate all those debates and forum games from Dip stuff?

Re: New forum; introduction and next steps
Indeed! If you look at the board index, you'll notice we have four forum sections set up: Announcements from the mod team, Diplomacy discussion, Forum games for mafia and other games, and General for political discussions and anything that doesn't fit into the above. We hope that this will add a bit more order to our forum, allowing people to self-select the content they want to participate in, and prevent the topics that users what to find from getting buried. We also limited the amount of sections there are, with the hope to keep the close-knit feel of the old webDip forum.
