Re: WebMafia Olympics - Game #2 - Star Trek TNG: The Republic of Q [GAME THREAD]
Opening flavour, part I
Captain Picard sipped his Earl Grey tea, cleared his throat, and tapped the computer panel.
"Captain's log, Stardate 46379.1. The Enterprise is en-route to the Ophiucus system, to investigate a report from the Federation settlement on Ophiucus III, of a party of unknown humanoids making landfall on the uninhabited Ophiucus II, from an equally unknown spacecraft, which has now disappeared."
Picard looked up as the door to the ready room swished open. Commander Riker stood in the doorway.
"Entering the system, sir. Preparing to orbit Ophiucus II."
The two men made their way to their seats at the bridge.
"Lt. Commander Data, planetary scan please."
Data ran his eyes over the desk in front of him, and turned around in his seat, bearing a puzzled expression.
"Sir. According to Federation scientific records, Ophiucus II is a non-habitable desert world with a thin carbon dioxide and nitrogen atmosphere. However..... our scanners report a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere. Breathable. Scans show previously uncharted water, and vegetation, especially in an area around 100 kilometres north of the equator."
"Any life signs?"
"Affirmative, sir, detecting three humanoid life forms on the surface, in the vicinity of the area of vegetation which I just mentioned."
"And, no sign of the vessel?"
"Negative, sir. The Enterprise appears to be the only large ship present in the system."
Captain Picard leaned back in his seat, stroking his chin.
"Commander Riker, prepare an away team. The Federation has guests."

Opening flavour, part 2
Riker and the rest of the away team stood on the transporter pad.
"Seven of you? That's a big team, Commander," remarked Chief O'Brien (uttering his only line in the episode, as usual).
"We're venturing into the unknown, Chief," replied Riker. "I need a good team around me. Beam us down."
The team materialised on the planet surface. Around them rose fig trees and tall poplars. An olive grove was nearby, and further on, a building of some kind.
Worf looked up at the trees. "This planet was supposed to be inhospitable," remarked the Klingon. "Trees like this take years to grow. This is highly unusual."
The party walked towards the building, marvelling at the lush vegetation. The building was huge, monumental, with tall stone columns supporting an ornate roof edged with artistic carvings. A tall man, apparently human, wearing a simple white robe, stood at the entrance with his back to them. Riker bristled as the man slowly turned to face them.
"Damn, not this guy again..."

Opening flavour, part 3
"Good day, William Riker", smirked Q. "It is indeed 'this guy' again. Aren't you pleased to see me?"
"What are you doing here, Q? Engaging in a little terraforming project? This is a Federation system, as I'm sure you're aware."
Q smirked. "Isn't it beautiful? As you may guess, I had a time of classical antiquity in mind. Would you like a fig? Some olives, perhaps? I even have wine!"
"He is wasting our time," said Worf.
"He is," agreed Riker, looking around at his crewmates, most of whom were nodding in agreement. He tapped his badge. "Enterprise! Nine to beam up!"
"Deputy Transporter Chief Smedley here, Commander", came a voice over the communicator. "Um, did you say nine people? Chief O'Brien reported a party of seven, sir?"
Riker was confused. He looked around. He had chosen a seven-person away team. Now there were eight other crewmen with him. He recognised them all; friends and colleagues he had served with for years. His mind felt hazy; he couldn't remember which crewmates he had brought with him. Why were there nine of them now? What was going on?
"Alright, Q, what is this? What's going on?"
Q smiled. "You said this is a Federation world, Commander? But you weren't using it. There was nobody here. You humans are so greedy sometimes, marching all over the galaxy sticking little flags in every planetoid you come across. Don't you think I've made it much nicer?"
Q strolled around as he spoke, gesturing to the tall, leafy trees and majestic stone columns.
"This planet declares itself independent of the Federation," he proclaimed. "I declare this world, the Republic of Q!"
Worf stepped forward. "This is an outrage! The Republic of Q? Don't be ridiculous." He now tapped his badge as well. "Enterprise, beam us up."
"I'm sorry, Lieutenant," came the reply. "The transporter can't lock onto your signatures. There seems to be some kind of interference!"
An enraged Worf glared at Q.
"Transporter not working?" chuckled Q. "So temperamental, your human technology, isn't it? And if your Captain Picard tries to send a shuttle, I'm afraid to say it won't be able get here. You're all going to stay a while with me..... and play a little game."

Opening flavour, part 4
Counsellor Troi spoke up. "What game, Q?"
Q grinned.
"A game that one such as you, Troi, should be very good at! Commander Riker noticed that your little party now amounts to nine, yet only seven arrived. My doing, I confess. You see, two among your number are impostors, my people, members of the Q continuum. Doppelgangers, if you will!"
The crew members gasped, and looked around at each other. Worf glared suspiciously.
"I do not remember Ensign Crusher being assigned to this away team, perhaps he is the impostor!"
Wesley protested. "I was, too! Wouldn't the real Lieutenant Worf be at his station, ready to defend the ship? Maybe it's you!"
With a smirk, Q stepped between them.
"This, ladies and gentlemen of the Enterprise, is the entertainment. Talk to each other. Interrogate. Ask. Listen. Study! To leave the Republic of Q, you must determine who among you are the impostors, and remove them from your ranks!"

Game Start
Riker stepped a foot closer to Q, his expression intense.
"What do you mean, remove them from our ranks? You won't make us fight for your perverse amusement. I won't allow it."
Q chuckled, opening his arms.
"My dear Commander! You stand on the fertile soil of the Republic of Q. We shall embrace the traditions of the Greek Republic. Democracy! You will identify your suspects.... by voting!"

Bc if they are we can just vote Unvote as the second highest VC so it turns into a vanilla game
Also is 7-2 in town or mafia favor?

Re: WebMafia Olympics - Game #2 - Star Trek TNG: The Republic of Q [GAME THREAD]
General question about this game in particular (to all)
is the better strategy to vote who you consider to be most dangerous as sum or who you consider to be least useful as town?

Where’s the “vote the suspects” option lol. These sound like alignment-agnostic considerations. Not a ton of time to screw around with either IMO.
